>lyrically i can see it being intriguing
A few days ago I was thinking about something related.
When I listened to some Black Metal recently I was thinking how little I care about the lyrics. It's just another instrument to me. I do listen to NSBM bands too, and I do also not care about the lyrics and don't even know what the lyrics are about. It doesn't matter to me at all. But not only for BM, but all music actually. I'll have to remind myself that often (BM) LPs I really like were made decades ago by (not always, but often) teenagers. I like the sound, but I couldn't care less about the lyrics nowadays. It's often edgy, cringe-inducing, teenage angsty, whatever, I don't care. (Although I am not denying it can't be interesting reading the lyrics, when the person responsible, somehow became famous for other crimes or whatnot)
And then it striked me: This was totally different when I was a teenager and listened to punk, crust, grindcore or anything really. Lyrics mattered a lot to me. I identified with it and such things.
