Haven't seen a good movie in a long time? Then I suggest watching "The Fire Within: A Requiem for Katia and Maurice Krafft", directed by Werner Herzog. It's a documentary about two volcanologists who lost their lives in 1991 in Japan while surveying an active volcano. The movie mostly consists of footage filmed by the Kraffts with beautiful music and Herzog's voiceover. All of the images in this movie are captivatingly beautiful, the topics range from creation to death. Currently educating myself about the Chinese Civil War by reading Otto Braun's "Chinesische Aufzeichnungen (1932-1939)". In 1932 Otto Braun was sent to China by the Comintern as a military advisor. He was the only foreigner to participate in the CPC's infamous "Long March".
The Chinese to me are a mystery. I don't even really have anything against them, but it just seems as if they are very different from most people out there. If I had the attention span required to know anything about them other than what is said over imageboards, stuff like them being the equivalent of insects, which is not something I dispute, then I'd learn more about them. I would also think that the perspective of a German in China could be interesting to know more about.
