France with its high dependency on nuclear power was one of the main drivers of rising electricity prices last year. Literally every summer they have problems that they have to reduce reactor output because their rivers get too hot. This won't get better with climate change.

Nuclear power would make sense if we would properly recycle nuclear waste so we don't have to store it for 100000 years. But nobody does it. If you factor in the cost of properly storing it/recycling it's just not a competitive energy source anymore. Currently theses costs are all hidden because they are paid by the taxpayer. Not even speaking about insurance cost.

Afaik it would be already possible to build a working fusion reactor but no government currently wants to spend the 20 billion dollars to do it. Especially with energy it seems like a good idea to produce it decentralized because this is more stable against power outages.
It's more of a psychology thing. Thing is, neither Russia nor Russians are a viable or required asset without socialism, as they cannot adapt to capitalist policies. So to them, any employer is still "the state" - a common owner of goods and meanings of production, so it's okay to steal from the said "owner" - after all, the state is YOU.
System worked perfectly well under socialism as it implied such theft under the "shrinkage and attrition" policies, when a pair of American jeans could've """shrunk""" while being transported, and that was signed off as "shrinkage" after it was measured by weigh - that way, a warehouse slave was able to get himself a 200 roubles (which equals 200 bucks) pair of levi's for free, which made he feel like he belongs and does the right thing - that's why so many people miss the soviet union.
