My dad is particularly old and was actually born in Nazi Germany after WW2 started and I did not have a great relationship with him although it being really awful only started in my youth.

WW2 related traumata that are passed from generation to generation and how they influence(d) nurturing is still a topic here as far as I know. It's probably similiar for US soldiers that returned with PTSD and fathered children after war.
