ive tried to look up at the cheaper price and fuck me it costs 60 bucks even?? i don't have much knowledge about cars, let alone wipers, but it sounds like a bargain

idk, 20 bucks is not 32, but still not so good, fuck Inflation man

Tell me about it.

I am trying to build a custom waterloop for my next PC and prices are fucked up.

There is no reason to do watercooling in the pc at all. At the end watercooling is just aircooling but with the cooling taking place at the radiator and not in the case. An that waterstep in between just makes everything way more expensive with no benefits at all.
GermanyBernd2024-08-28 18:02:20 · 2yNo. 317733reply
>No benefits
There is.

I am trying to fit a desktop PC into a suitcase, there is no space for a big cpu fan, but I can easily fit two 360mm radiators in the top lid.
GermanyBernd2024-08-28 18:04:56 · 2yNo. 317734reply
Also I'll take the bonus of being able to OC harder too since water does cool better than air if done right!

My portable work machine will draw up to 1.2kw/h from bakeries and café's where I will chill my balls, sip a coffee and do some work.
GermanyBernd2024-08-28 18:27:42 · 2yNo. 317738reply
I builded my own casemod with watercooling more than a decade ago.
After I switched my cpu and graphics card cooler with watercooled ones I discovered that my main board overheated because the chipset used to be passively cooled by the air flow from the cpu cooler. So I had to replace that with a watercooler as well. Then a couple weeks later my HDD got broken. Turned out that the temperatures of the HDD were very high as well. At the end I still had to add 120mm fans to my case to have some air flow in there to transport away the heat from all the other element.

Especially when you want to make something transportable I wouldn't want to have all the extra parts for a watercooling system and additional weight of the water in there.
GermanyBernd2024-08-28 18:49:36 · 2yNo. 317739reply
The problem I face is that picrel 1 does not fit into picrel 2 but a cpu water cooler perfectly does.
I am going for a no compromise power machine so sub optimal air cooling (due to a small case) just won't do the job.

Asus ROG STRIX X670E-I (what an AMAZING board) and ryzen 9900X are already on their way btw :3

My future GPU will also be a lot smaller with a water block attached, but for now my old 1080 will have to do the job. I am hoping for AMDs RDNA5 gen to be good, or if I can't wait maybe a radeon 8000..

>At the end I still had to add 120mm fans to my case to have some air flow in there to transport away the heat from all the other element.
Thanks for the tip. I am planning to add a few small fans into my case too to provide at least some air dlow for the other components.

I do a variety of things on the PC like video editing, 3D modeling, AI inference, programming or even gaming sometimes so I need the power. If I did not need this, I'd get a laptop instead.

Also, I just had this idea of adding a switch to invert the rotation of the radiator fans in the top lid for an optional vent for sweaty Bernd during hot days olol r8
GermanyBernd2024-08-28 19:13:48 · 2yNo. 317749reply
Why did you chose that briefcase? This will certainly draw attention and looks cumbersome to carry around.
Do you want to build a monitor in there as well?

>invert the rotation of the radiator fans in the top lid
cpu fans only have one rotation. The fan blade only works in one direction and if you invert the voltage it won't rotate.
GermanyBernd2024-08-28 19:14:59 · 2yNo. 317750reply
I am yet to choose one.
I took a random pic

>cpu fans only have one rotation. The fan blade only works in one direction and if you invert the voltage it won't rotate.

Oh, damn. I thought I can simply invert the wiring of a 12V DC fan to revert the air flow.
But it makes sense that they are created to blow air only in one directions.

>monitor

I will try to put a monitor inside mounted on smth like this. Lickily I have someone to help me with the physical engineering and design because I can't do it.

I will also put in mouse and keyboard for the full desktop experience.

Feels a little bad to have such a machine and then only have some tiny monitor for it that has to fit in a briefcase.
GermanyBernd2024-08-28 21:27:11 · 2yNo. 317778reply
It does.
Just gotta wait for them foldable monitors!

GermanyBernd2024-08-29 17:04:24 · 2yNo. 317835reply
You can get portable 16'' monitors. I'd get two of them and connect them with USB-C to the briefcase on the floor some monitors you can daisy chain, so you only have to connect the monitors to each other and one monitor to the pc. Then you only have peripherals are on the table. This would certainly draw less attention than looking at some chonker of a briefcase on the table. And two small monitors are better than one small to midsized monitor.
GermanyBernd2024-08-29 17:09:48 · 2yNo. 317836reply
In this case you wouldn't be forced to use a small briefcase anymore that you have to leave on the table and could go for s small trolley on wheels instead.
This would draw even less attention because it carries a travelling hipster vibe which is expected of someone working in a cafe. Also this would result in less space constraints regarding the components. Although I'm not sure how well pc components like the vibration of being rolled around on small wheels on asphalt.
GermanyBernd2024-08-29 19:11:01 · 2yNo. 317852reply
Some really good thoughts here, thank you for taking the time.

Obviously I will be able to run my PC in "case closed mode" too to avoid attention. But for easy and quick setup and usage everywhere, I will still include >>317752 to be able to quickly open it up and use it laptop-like.

>16"
Sadly my eyesight is too bad for me to enjoy such small screens. I will get at least a 17" or even 18.5", and then a foldable as soon as they get released.

Really if my bad posture in front if laptops wasn't a problem, I probably wouldn't go through all this.
GermanyBernd2024-08-29 19:56:12 · 2yNo. 317855reply
How about augmented reality glasses to display a screen into your vision? I have no idea how well that works.
GermanyBernd2024-08-29 22:28:36 · 2yNo. 317866reply
Shiit, them possibilities...

There is also the gimmick of removing the polarising layer of an LCD screen and put it on your glasses so only you can see what is going on the screen.

I have never really thought about AR glasses, but now that I will be soon running around with a PC on my back anyway..... AAA THEM POSSIBILITIES!!

I am so excited for the future.

So far I thought about using bluetooth to get the terminal on my phone, but imagine using the terminal woth AR glasses :0

How would you do the input though? Voice detection would ruin the idea of being stealthy.

Apple AR glasses have some camera at the front that detects your finger movements. So you can type on a virtual keyboard and that is supposed to work somehow. I doubt that a keyboard without tactile feedback is very pleasant to use and I don't know if there are any non-apple alternatives to this.

I used to have some slider smartphone with querty keyboard that you could use with your thumbs. That is a very pleasant keyboard experience and you can still get mini bluetooth keyboards. It would be best if you found something with a thinkpad like nipple to use it as a mouse as well. A proper keyboard is still better of course.
