I think russians and americans could unite under the fact that we both really like sour cream

Never had pierogis but my dad's russian friend brought us some varenikis recently. Similar I think. He insisted we boil them and eat as a soup topped with butter and sour cream which was tasty. But I imagine frying them would be good too

had to google that but it's actually the same thing (maybe fillings are different, pierogi ruskie are made with potatoes, caramelized onions and cottage cheese); frying makes them crunchy on the outside and combined with cold sour cream it's just the best thing ever

also, funny thing, lots of people think that pierogi ruskie originated in Russia, and when the war started some restaurants actually re-named pierogi ruskie to pierogi ukraińskie; but they're actually from a region called Ruś Czerwona (Red Ruthenia), which is a part of Poland and Ukraine now

There's also a lot of Slavic-German-Jewish dishes considered by both American Jews and Russian Russians be a part of their national cuisine.
