I find it very strange that people can put up with parties having >50% of votes
Both Hungary and Serbia have elections this Sunday.
The opinion polls in Hungary are close, Orbán seems to be hovering just below 50% (which however would still allow him narrow majority due to votes to parties below threshold). This time, most opposition parties are running as a single coalition.
In Serbia, Vučić seems to be more comfortably slightly above 50% in polls. Note that in Serbia, both parliamentary and presidential elections will be held at the same time this time.
Basically this >>145715 but to elaborate further: not having this system would force candidates from the same general political option to join forces from the beginning, which leads to them having to take more compromises before the elections already. In general, this kind of dynamics will slowly railroad politics into a two-party system, as it becomes preferrable to consolidate behind two blocs rather than keeping more smaller parties that might cater to individual voters better with their nuanced issue based programme differences.
