It's quite easy to torrent or use applications that have fallen out of popularity. Before the new Android soulseek client came out, I was reliant on Freezer. Now that that is discontinued and that I own a laptop again, I'm using Soulseek and rutracker to rebuild my archive.
Storage is cheap too. 1tb micro SD cards are below $60 dollars, I can't imagine why anyone would go through the trouble of purchasing a yearly subscription of spotify that consumes both your data plan and wastes your battery at a faster rate than if you'd play it locally on any device. Then again convenience plays a factor and ignorance. Slurp up any objective in front of you and fall into peer pressure and you're a victim of corporate advertising.
I do dislike how spotify pays their subscribed artists, which could be a great move considering how little they get.
