In my fam only our parents buy gifts

I have never bought a Christmas present for anyone

this year i also have nothing, I only gift when I have good ideas

this applies for my family not finlan in general

in my friends' families kids by presents for their parents which i have always thought to be bizarre and awkward

Do something nice for your parents.

You can always give presents from the goodness of your heart and not because of Christmas

But sometimes gifts are expected at certain times like christmas or on birthdays.

 

A gift also implies the need to give a gift back. If it has been given without any obvious reason, that might put the receiver under stress. Now he has to reciprocate somehow, outside of a context he is used to giving gifts in. When exchanging christmas and birthday gifts, this problem doesn't exist.
