>Huawai Matebook

Are the Chinese retarded or trolling at this point? Why make such an obvious Macbook imitation and call it "Matebook"? Why not Mackbook? Why even have a different company name, why not name the company Abble?

Finland should make the Abble Magbugg

by that logic all notebooks made of aluminium are macbooks
GermanyBernd2021-12-17 11:27:13 · 5yNo. 129814reply
I'm not arguing that you should have to design notebooks in a visually distinct way from macbooks. It is a simple design and appropriate for that type of device.

But Huawei chose to make a similar product, present it in a very similar way in advertising (look at the wallpapers) and gave it a cartoonishly similar name that makes little sense on its own. Meanwhile competitors have names like XPS, Surface Pro, Thinkpad or things like that and use colors and designs in advertising that doesn't look like a knockoff of Apple's advertising. But no, they chose "Matebook".

Well their high end phones are called mate so it kinda makes sense. But they obviously weren't unhappy about the similarity.

China is just bad at making something original

Gotta give credit to the devil where credit is due. The Chinese may not innovate, but they at least can compete and accelerate the stagnant competition in most markets.

Mate is their brand that started in phones, and it's not relevant to Mac.

If youve ever been to china, even once, their toys, cartoons, fucking movies; all of them are cheap ripoffs.
Hell even entire restaraunt chains and fucking software, china is literally ripoff central.

I considered getting one a while ago for my work. I just needed a decent laptop that I was going to put Linux on and the Matebook seemed to tick a lot of boxes. You can buy them from AliExpress/eBay, but I'm paranoid about Huawei hardware, even though much of the world uses them just fine.

The choice is really which secret service you want to have access to your hardware. Five Eyes or China.
