Yeah, thought about using Unity myself already, a lot of simple looking, yet fun 2D games use it to great effect and from what I saw modding 7 Days Ti Die a little, the coding side should be very simple there.
A simple text adventure wouldn't be what I'd start with though, maybe one of those text only incremental games, like A Dark Room. Doing a tamagotchi myself does sound very fun tho :3
But also roguelikes because if coding/developing such a game is anything then the more advanced and finer arts of CAD drawing, I can imagine making it as modular for future expansion into more complexity, as I want.
Obviously writing simple LISPs for CAD would also be a benefit.
How is developing something as an phone app different?
Thought process for me is, that this is really one of the only sidegigs/hobbies that I could do to - in the long run - improve and synergize with my FIRE plans.
Even if it only creates just a little revenue, every bit helps and once FIREd, a little stream of income that only needs myself and a laptop would be very welcome.
Fucking laziness once you get a little older man...
