Back in 2021, miHoYo (now called HoYoverse), the developer of Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact, shared big ideas about the future of virtual worlds. The company said its long-term goal was to create something much bigger, including a massive virtual world that could entertain up to one billion people by 2030. Many fans compared this vision to anime like Sword Art Online.
In earlier reports, miHoYo also revealed that it partnered with a medical research hospital in China to study brain–computer interface technology. This research focuses on how the human brain can connect with machines, mainly for medical and scientific use.
While there is no confirmed “NerveGear” device in development, these projects show that HoYoverse is interested in the long-term future of virtual reality, brain research, and immersive worlds. Some of these ideas are part of a vision that looks toward 2030 and beyond.
