Another one.

I would like some critique/tips for this one.

 

I used pic rel as the original and pic rel as a reference pic. I changed the colors in GIMP and put a little rune on moominpappa's book. I'm not quite satisfied. I used the select color and fill color features to recolor some things, but then I had trouble with some remaining pixels at the edges, as you can see. Then I used some color feature to darken the whole thing and increased the contrast a little, to give it a gloomier feel.

I should probably watch some GIMP tutorials again, but I'm not sure where to start.

is that supposed to be a wicker man insode which a person is sacrificed on that DIJ cover

I'm not sure. According to Wikipedia, the sources on wicker men in actual paganism are very scarce, so modern neopagans are free to make stuff up.
