At my local grocery chain store, the regular price of an 8 oz (225g) bag of lays potato chips is $5. You can often buy decent cuts of steak for a similar price by weight depending on the season. To charge this much for Fried slices of potato dusted with salt or other seasonings is criminal
They do offer discounts pretty regularly of certain types, today for example I bought a bag for $2.50 with a coupon that I have to scan with the fucking app of course. Or more commonly they'll offer a similar deal like $2 a bag but you have to buy at least 4 at a time.
It's all so tiresome.

Here in France grocery prices are crazy too.
I thought Germany got more expensive, but nono, even Rewe prices are heaven compared to this.
1 baguette: 1,30
1 liter of oat milk: 2,5 - 3 euros
200g of minced meat: 5-10 euros
1kg of salmon: 60 euros
1 paprika: 1 euro
1kg apples: at least 2,5 euros

read again
in Germany there is a lot of supermarket competition, hence they can't rip us off so easily.
also, we are just very efficient - the staff as well as the customers and even the product design.
For example, in German discounters bar codes are printed on every side of the product so it doesn't matter what side faces down when scanning it.
Also we are afraid of not having our things packed up as soon as the cashiers finishes scanning and asks for payment.
Meanwhile in France, people take 5 minutes to pack up their things before paying and while not particularly common anymore (god bless), paying with a check is also a practice here and it wastes another few minutes of everyones time.

To be honest, last time I was in France (few months ago) I didn't notice any big difference with grocery prices. Anyway, here in the Netherlands that would be
1 baguette: 1.40 - 2.50
1 liter of normal milk: 1.50 (I guess the oat milk is slightly more expensive?)
500g of minced meat: 5 euros
salmon: no idea
1 paprika: 0.95
1kg apples: 2 euro

I don't know about the difference with Netherlands, but French prices were approximately twice the German ones year and a half ago, that's why I figured it was normal (minus the salmon thing, that's ridiculous if true).

it really is easier to buy high quality meat for somewhat okay prices in a middle range while in Germany we get to choose between low quality ultra cheap and high quality ultra expensive
however I truly believe that this "muh discounters sell bad quality" statement is bullshit made up by people who profit from justifying higher prices

I really wonder how these niggas survive with food prices like this.
Also, it triggers me that they produce so much waste only two slices of ham. But I guess nobody could afford a package with 10 slices inside.
And instead of trying to make things more affordable, they pay people to but the vegetables in a nice order (pic 2) and build pyramids of apples.
