The enemy continues to use artillery, mortars, drones and large-caliber rifles in the directions of Vardenis, Sotk, Artanish, Ishkhanasar, Goris and Kapan, targeting both military and civilian infrastructures. In some parts of the border, the positional battles are also continuing, the enemy does not stop the attempts to advance. We are in an energycrisis, so maybe this is relevant, everything revolves around geopolitics after all. >The Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline (Azerbaijani: Transxəzər boru xətti, Turkmen: Transhazar turbaly geçiriji) is a proposed subsea pipeline between Türkmenbaşy in Turkmenistan, and Baku in Azerbaijan. According to some proposals it will also include a connection between the Tengiz Field in Kazakhstan, and Türkmenbaşy.[1] The Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline project is purposed to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to European Union member countries, circumventing both Russia and Iran. It is also considered as a natural eastward extension of Southern Gas Corridor. This project attracts significant interest since it will connect vast Turkmen gas resources to major consumer geographies as Turkey and Europe.[2] >Description >Petroleum pipelines to Europe >The projected capacity of the pipeline is 30 billion cubic metres (1.1 trillion cubic feet) of natural gas per year at an estimated cost of US$5 billion.[11] In Baku, it would link to the South Caucasus Pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline), and through this with the planned Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline.[25] A feasibility study for the project funded by the United States Trade and Development Agency is carried out by Granherne, a subsidiary of KBR.[26][27] >Critics >The project is heavily criticized by Russia and Iran, previously significant transit countries for Turkmen gas and current competitors. Alexander Golovin, special envoy on Caspian issues, has stated that a major gas pipeline would pose a serious, dangerous risk to the prosperity of the entire region.[28] According to the Russian Natural Resources Ministry, any gas or oil pipelines across the floor of the Caspian Sea would be environmentally unacceptable.[29] Russia has also taken the legal position that a potential pipeline project, regardless of the route it takes on the seabed, would require the consent of all five Caspian littoral states in order to proceed.[28] Iran has pointed out that treaties signed by Iran and the Soviet Union in 1921 and 1940 are still in force and that any action taken without the consent of all the littoral states would be illegal.[30] In regard of the decision taken by the EU on 12 September 2011, Russia expressed its "disappointment" as it "seems to have been adopted without taking into account the internationally accepted legal and geopolitical situation in the Caspian basin," and as Caspian Sea littoral state, Russia could veto any international agreement allowing for the pipeline to be built.[31][32] >In reaction to the 1999 plans for a Trans-Caspian gas pipeline Russia and Iran collaborated in calling for a Central Asian gas cartel in 2001 and 2002.[33] There is also a concern in the West that closer collaboration between Georgia and Azerbaijan will isolate Armenia and tempt it to strengthen ties with Russia and Iran.[5] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Caspian_Gas_Pipeline

CNN: Clashes erupt along Armenia-Azerbaijan border, potentially reigniting an old conflict A decades-old conflict may be on the verge of reigniting, as reports emerged this week of attacks along the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The Armenian Defense Ministry claimed Azerbaijan Armed Forces conducted artillery strikes toward Armenian border towns Tuesday morning. According to the Armenian Defense Ministry, the strike included drones and large-caliber firearms fired in the direction of Goris, Sotk, and Jermuk. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense responded with a statement acknowledging the strikes, but said the strikes are “small-scale” and “aim to ensure the security of Azerbaijan’s borders.” On Monday, Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense accused Armenian forces of firing in small arms in the directions of the Novoivanovka settlement of Gadabay region and Husulu settlement of Lachin region near the border of the two countries. Armenia denied the allegations. In 2020, the two countries clashed over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, a landlocked area between Eastern Europe and Western Asia that is populated and controlled by ethnic Armenians but located in Azerbaijani territory. The unrest in the region is decades old, dating back to the collapse of the Soviet Union, when the region, backed by Armenia, declared independence from Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has long claimed it will retake the territory, which is internationally recognized as Azerbaijani. On Tuesday, Armenia called on Russia to implement a 1997 defense treaty that stipulates the countries will defend each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in the event of an attack by a foreign country. “A decision was made to officially apply to the Russian Federation for the implementation of the provisions of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, to the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the UN Security Council regarding the aggression against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia,” a statement from the Armenian Prime Minister’s office read. The request came after a session with the Armenian Security Council and a call between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a statement from Pashinyan’s office. Russia previously deployed what it termed peacekeeping forces to the region after brokering a ceasefire agreement in early November 2020, ending an almost two-month conflict that killed at least 6,500 people, according to Reuters. Pashinyan also spoke with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken Tuesday, asking for an “adequate reaction” from the international community in response to what Pashinyan referred to as “the aggression launched by Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia,” his office said in a statement. On Monday evening, Blinken called for the “immediate cessation of hostilities.” “The United States is deeply concerned about reports of attacks along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, including reported strikes against settlements and civilian infrastructure inside Armenia,” Blinken said in a statement. “As we have long made clear, there can be no military solution to the conflict. We urge an end to any military hostilities immediately.” https://edition.cnn.com/2022/09/13/middleeast/azerbaijan-armenia-artillery-strikes-intl-hnk/index.html

Armenia and Russia have agreed on joint steps to stabilise the situation along Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan after deadly overnight clashes, officials in Yerevan said. Armenia’s defence minister Suren Papikyan said he spoke with his counterpart Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday and they both “agreed to take necessary steps to stabilise the situation”. ‘No military solution’ Russia is a key power broker in the region and an ally of Armenia through the Moscow-led Collective Security Treaty Organization. Meanwhile, the United States said it was deeply concerned about reports of the attacks. “As we have long made clear, there can be no military solution to the conflict,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday. “We urge an end to any military hostilities immediately.” Turkey’s foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Armenia should cease provocations, and instead focus on peace negotiations and cooperation with Azerbaijan. There have been frequent reports of fighting along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border since the end of their 2020 war. Last week, Armenia accused Azerbaijan of killing one of its soldiers in a border attack. In August, Azerbaijan said it had lost a soldier, and the Karabakh army said two of its troops had been killed and more than a dozen wounded. The neighbours have fought two wars over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, the Armenian-populated enclave in Azerbaijan. Conflict first broke out in the late 1980s, when both sides were under Soviet rule and Armenian forces captured swathes of territory near Nagorno-Karabakh – long recognised internationally as Azerbaijan’s territory, but with a large Armenian population. About 30,000 people died in the ensuing conflict. Azerbaijan regained those territories in the 2020 fighting, which ended with a Russian-brokered truce and thousands of residents returning to homes from which they had fled. More than 6,500 people lost their lives in the six-week war. The leaders of both countries have since met several times to hammer out a treaty intended to establish a lasting peace. During EU-mediated talks in Brussels in May and April, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan agreed to “advance discussions” on a future peace treaty. Pashinyan on Tuesday held separate phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, and EU’s President Charles Michel on the latest clashes, according to the Armenian government. Michel said the EU was “ready to make efforts to prevent further escalation” and said there was “no alternative to peace and stability in the region”. Pashinyan condemned the “provocative, aggressive actions” of the Azerbaijani armed forces and called for an “adequate response from the international community”, the Armenian government said. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/9/13/deadly-clashes-erupt-between-armenia-azerbaijan

Armenia sought Russian military assistance Tuesday over deadly border clashes with Azerbaijan as Moscow’s forces remain embroiled in the Kremlin's own war in Ukraine. Armenia and Azerbaijan blamed each other for exchanges of fire around the contested Nagorno-Karabakh region that began at about midnight local time, which Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said killed at least 49 people. Yerevan later accused Baku of "trying to advance" inside Armenian territory. "The enemy continues to use artillery, mortars, drones and large-caliber rifles in the directions of Vardenis, Sotk, Artanish, Ishkhanasar, Goris and Kapan, targeting both military and civilian infrastructures," the Armenian Defense Ministry said in a statement Tuesday. Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan and Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu spoke by phone and agreed on "joint steps to stabilize the situation," the defense ministry in Yerevan said. Armenia’s security council, led by the Caucasus republic’s prime minister and president, gathered to invoke a mutual assistance and cooperation treaty with Russia, which spells out joint defense and military assistance in case of aggression toward signatories, the Armenian government said in a statement. “It was decided to officially appeal to the Russian Federation in order to use the provisions of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance,” the statement reads. The statement adds that Armenia will also turn to the Moscow-led security bloc of six former Soviet republics, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), as well as the UN Security Council for assistance. Russia’s state-run TASS news agency reported early Tuesday that Armenia has already submitted the formal appeals. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. State Secretary Antony Blinken. The flare-up between regional foes Armenia and Azerbaijan is the latest of a series of frequent reports of shootouts along their shared border since the end of the 2020 war between Yerevan and Baku over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenian officials have linked clashes to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and pro-government Azeri media seeking to discredit the 2,000-member Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Ukraine war has fueled rumors that Russia was withdrawing at least part of its peacekeepers into Ukraine and contributed to an escalation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, where ceasefire violations are common. Last week, Armenia accused Azerbaijan of killing one of its soldiers in a border shootout. In August, Azerbaijan said it had lost a soldier and the Karabakh army said two of its troops had been killed and more than a dozen injured. The neighbors fought two wars — in the 1990s and in 2020 — over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, Azerbaijan's Armenian-populated enclave. Six weeks of fighting in the fall of 2020 claimed more than 6,500 lives and ended with a Russian-brokered ceasefire. Under the deal, Armenia ceded swathes of territory it had controlled for decades and Moscow deployed about 2,000 Russian peacekeepers to oversee the fragile truce. During EU-mediated talks in Brussels in May and April, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan agreed to "advance discussions" on a future peace treaty. Ethnic Armenian separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. The ensuing conflict claimed around 30,000 lives. Sept 13 (Reuters) - Clashes erupted between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, Russian news agencies reported early on Tuesday, in a resumption of decades-old hostilities linked to the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan, which re-established full control over the territory in a six-week conflict in 2020, acknowledged casualties among its forces. Armenia made no mention of losses, but said clashes persisted overnight. The Yerevan government said it would invoke a cooperation agreement with Russia and appeal to a Russia-led security bloc, the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, as well as the United Nations Security Council, Interfax reported. In addition to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has called French President Emmanuel Macron and United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss the situation. Blinken urged an immediate end to hostilities for which each side has blamed the other. read more "Several positions, shelters and reinforced points of the Azerbaijan armed forces ... came under intense shelling from weapons of various calibres, including mortars, by units of the Armenian army," the agencies quoted a statement by Azerbaijan's Defence Ministry as saying. "As a result, there are losses in personnel and damage to military infrastructure." Azerbaijani statements said Armenian forces had been engaged in intelligence activity on its border, moved weapons into the area and on Monday night had conducted mining operations. It said its actions were "strictly local in nature aimed at military targets." Armenia's Defence Ministry said: "Intensive shooting is continuing - started as a result of a large-scale provocation by the Azerbaijani side. Armenia's armed forces have launched a proportionate response." Conflict first broke out in the late 1980s when both sides were under Soviet rule and Armenian forces captured swathes of territory near Nagorno-Karabkah - long recognised internationally as Azerbaijan's territory, but with a large Armenian population. >>225119 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Nagorno-Karabakh_ceasefire_agreement Only two weeks ago were Russian peacekeepers replaced with Azerbadjan troops: "Azerbaijan takes over Lachin city in line with Armenia peace deal Azerbaijani troops move into Lachin to replace Russian peacekeepers in line with a peace deal signed with Armenia. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has announced that his country’s troops had moved into the strategic city of Lachin to replace Russian peacekeepers stationed there in line with a peace deal signed with Armenia in 2020. “We, the Azerbaijanis, have returned to Lachin. Azerbaijan’s army is now stationed in the city of Lachin. The villages of Zabukh and Sus were taken under control,” he wrote on Twitter on Friday. Footage released by the defence ministry showed what it said were Azerbaijani army vehicles moving into the city and the national flag waving over a main building. Lachin lies in a narrow strip of land in a mountainous region that is the only transit option between Armenia and Stepanakert, the capital of the breakaway territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. Nagorno-Karabakh, which lies within Azerbaijan, had been under the control of ethnic Armenian forces backed by Armenia since a separatist war there ended in 1994. That conflict left not only Nagorno-Karabakh, but large chunks of surrounding lands in Armenian hands. But in renewed fighting that began on September 27, 2020, Azerbaijan troops routed the Armenian forces and wedged deep into Nagorno-Karabakh. Their advance forced Armenia to accept a Russia-brokered peace deal on November 10, 2020, that saw the return to Azerbaijan of a significant part of the separatist region. It also obliged Armenia to hand over all of the areas it held outside Nagorno-Karabakh. Russia deployed nearly 2,000 soldiers to monitor the peace deal and help assist with the return of refugees. Violence flared up earlier this month as clashes between ethnic Armenian separatists and Azerbaijani forces." https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/8/26/azerbaijan-takes-over-lachin-city-in-line-with-armenia-peace-deal >>225126 Russia forced Armenia to capitulate and accept defeat in their earlier conflict.

According to the ISWNews field information from the Republic of Azerbaijan, the government and the army of this country are preparing to launch a large-scale military offensive against Armenia and occupy the areas of Syunik, Vayots Dzor and Gegharkunik provinces in the south of Armenia after September 27, i.e. after the anniversary of the start of the second Karabakh war. The main goal of Azerbaijan is to occupy the historical region of Zangezur, which now geographically corresponds to Syunik province of Armenia. According to the received information, it is very likely that the Azerbaijani army will start its military attacks after September 27 (the end of September or the beginning of October) with the focus on occupying the Zangezur region and connecting the main territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan region. During the last two weeks, the Azerbaijani army has sent troops and heavy military equipment to the borders of Armenia and these activities are still ongoing. In one of these cases, about 60 Azerbaijani military trucks have transferred and deployed a significant number of Azerbaijani military forces to Fuzuli area. The deployment of S300 air defense systems in Baku and its surroundings and the increase of air defense measures are observed in this region more than before. Also, the people who have just finished their military service have been re-called to the army, and soon a general call will be announced for a certain age range to introduce themselves to the army.On Turkey’s side, several thousands of troops have been prepared for a possible attack on Armenia from the west, and they will enter the war if necessary. All these cases and a series of other events show Azerbaijan’s serious intention for a large-scale military attack, and if nothing special happens, this attack will be carried out.Simultaneously with these activities, the US, British, and French embassies in Armenia have issued statements and maps asking their nationals not to travel to the mentioned areas. In the map published by the French Embassy, the possible areas of Azerbaijan’s operations in Armenia are clearly marked. On September 24, Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister, Zakir Hasanov, officially announced in a statement that the country’s army may carry out further military operations against Armenia as they did between 12 and 14 September. Also, the military posts that were recently occupied by Azerbaijan in Armenia will receive supplies and equipment. In another move, Baku is hosting NATO’s OCC E&F training course from September 26. The Operational Capability Concept Evaluation and Feedback Programme (OCC E&F) is a multipurpose military mechanism designed to develop and establish closer operational relationships between NATO and potential contributor (here Azerbaijan) that are fully interoperable and capable of operating with NATO standards and procedures.
