This is the same pattern I've noticed amongst my parents' social circle (them included) so if things are going to end like that why even try? Isn't it better to just invest our time and money in ourselves? At the end of the day you are on your own, so I'd rather develop skills to keep my sad ass afloat when elderly hits instead of funding emotionally and financially on people that will end up turning their backs on you anyways
