I'm originally from Europe, living in the USA for decades but I've never felt European.
What does it mean to be European? Is it an attitude, a sensibility, a political stance? Is it better or worse? And yes I speak multiple languages I'm not like a Mayflower Amurikun.

No such thing as "European". The national experience we grow up in makes too much of a mark on our worldview. Maybe we can divide it to Western and Eastern European than we might be closer to generalized "European".

>shared historical consciousness
There is very little shared consciousness. The history is too long and only the recent history is a "common struggle" type, and even that there is a lot of struggle against each other. So what we even share it's often "on the other side of the fence" type of "common".
>culture and linguistic pluralism
Most Europeans monolingual or talks English beyond his native tongue. We don't really share the culture either. Tho there is some "oh we have the same here" recognition going on but still.
>social and political sensibility
This sounds like some made up bs.
>secularism and humanism
Perhaps this is something that can be generalized. We don't have that weird American "religionism".

Europe is too vast for a one size fits all approach and perhaps some of what you say is true or perhaps it's just mostly opinion. I know my experience here in Europe is so so. The Canadian posted something from Google AI so obviously it's not always going to be hard facts.
HungaryBernd2026-06-14 20:23:56 · 2wNo. 361606reply
That was my point, it's too diverse to talk about "European experience".

Nevertheless some people will still think otherwise.

Life is not all black and white, the same can be said about Europe and all the Nations in it. Atm just be glad your not In Russia,Ukraine,Belarus or Moldova atm. It's quite hellish in some parts there. But yeah, Europe is too diverse.

Thinking about it. America is going collectively insane. Also, women here are too fat.
