I've had "Hungarian mushroom soup" a few times from a fancy grocery store

idk how authentic it is, but it is very tasty

Well I'm glad you liked it.
I see three types of mushroom soups here.
1. add mushroom to chicken soup
2. add mushroom to veggie soup
3. mushroom cream soup
None of these considered particularly "national".

Interesting. Is that sour a bit?

Looks good. Some likely make something similar.

I knew a girl with surname barszcz
Another bole told me that this was a strange name because it was a soup.
The soup does look quite strange

a bit sour, yes, but in a good way

it's not that weird of a surname, I know people with surnames like Czosnek (garlic), Pasternak (parsnip), Jajko (egg), Żurek (sour rye soup)

the third most popular surname in Poland is Wiśniewski (cherry-something)

When i was a chlid we watched a show in school called ghostwriter, featuring a boy named sheldon turnipseed (as jamal).
Also there used to be someone in Tony Blair's cabinet named Eric Pickles. He looks pretty much exactly how you'd expect a man with such a name to look. He was born pickled.
