Why the UK was always so interested in the La Plata river region, going as far as invading Uruguay and Buenos Aires thrice, blocking the river, and constantly interfering in wars there?

What is so important in this region? Isn't it just a big river estuary with a lot of farmland?

Looks like a scenic place, who wouldn't be interested in that?

If I recall correctly it was because of commercial interests

Well Buenos Aires has a similar weather to London, so it reminded them to home. And since back then it was the only way ships crossed through both oceans, having a stronghold in the region would have benefited them greatly. Even though they never had a hold in the mainland, they cucked the Argensimians with the Falklands and they still make them seethe to this day.
