I honestly regret not adding just a tiny bit of money to buy a Heavy Duty, I bought a 8280. YouTube is full of pajeet tutorials showing how they apparently use it as a full-time sewing machine for making clothes and all. It's not like 8280 feels flimsy or I personally dislike it, but I think I could've gottenened more bang for my buck given that I do want to sew shirts and possibly pants with it. For example, Heavy Duty is reported to be fine at working with leather and heavy denim while reports for 8280 are mixed.
But really, my machine is good so far, though I did notice that Singer gets a lot of hate from American moms on reddit. Then again, Americans are ready to invest thousands into sergers and shit like it's nothing, I suppose they have different standards and expectations.
What I'm probably gonna do as an "upgrade" in the future is to get a hand-crank antique singer for experiments with leather and thicc denim, if I'm ready one day.
I THINK Bernina still makes sewing machines in Switzerland? But I'm pretty sure domestic machines are barely made anywhere in Europe at this point, perhaps Germany still makes industrial grade machines. Germany makes a lot of industrial grade things, but very few domestic nowadays. Sad.
