How do I steal a book from my local library without repercussions? It's not available to buy second hand. The problem is that the book is stored at the library's stacks, so I would have to order it to get it. Do you think I could try saying I lost it and just give them some money instead to keep it?
No, it's not just illustration, it's that specific book I want. It's special for two reasons: 1. those are the translations of Sophocles's works by Friedrich Hölderlin, the greatest German poet who has ever lived. 2. That edition includes a lengthy introduction by the legendary classicist Wolfgang Schadewaldt and I want to read that. To my knowledge this introduction can't be found anywhere else. (3. lesser reason, I collect books from the "Fischer Bücherei" from the 1950s-1970s)
If you were a collector you'd know where to buy, what places to keep tab on, or even people whom let you know if a copy is available. We have antiquaries, auction houses, and well collectors themselves. I'm sure Germany all has that and more.
