I went hiking today and saw a Feuersalamander in the wild. Holy cow! I've never seen one in the wild. This must be a good omen. Everything is going to be fine.

his life cycle is short, and soon he will be dead

10 years ago a chink fungus was found in germany that kills every salamander it comes in contact with in a couple of days. It can travel in water and has spread over the whole of germany since then.

Chances are that they will go extinct in the wild here and I will never be able to see one against.

I think the only reason the little salamander came out was because it was raining heavily for 4 hours straight. I currently consider searching for an area with lots of salamanders and try to find another one the next time it rains so hard.

Can't stop globalization. I doubt that they are that important for the ecosystem here tbh. They were rare already before this pest.

Maybe we can introduce some chink salamanders here that have already adapted to the fungus.
