GermanyWhat should I do with my moneyBernd2024-05-03 15:35:03 · 2yNo. 309062reply
I have been a wageslave for ~10 years now and I've accumulated over 200k€ in that time.

I have no idea what to do with it. I already own a car. I don't really travel and don't think I would enjoy travelling alone to other countries that much.

Only think I can think about is buying a house. But houses start at 300k and in this case it would be in some village in the area which would mean that I have to spend way more time commuting to work.

I fear that I will unexpectedly die of undetected cancer any minute and then it will just be lost.

Put your money in ETFs if you haven't already so it's worth doesn't decline over time.
If you really don't need this money in it's current form and houses are too expensive, why don't you go for an apartment in a good location to start collecting rents?

Maybe buy a cabin in the woods with some of the money?
GermanyBernd2024-05-03 16:19:09 · 2yNo. 309076reply
I don't think I would trust any place that takes donations to not put the majority of it into their own administration.
I would like specific drawings for myself but I would exclusively donate this to someone who outlines in red and I doubt I could find such an extravagant artist easily. Do you know anyone?

the lower number is the amount of money in ETFs.

The only upside of living in my own house would be that I don't have to deal with neighbors and the large amount of space. I don't get that with apartments. I think it would be best to wait 10+ years until buying real estate in hopes that boomers start dying and we get free houses against.

What would I do with a cabin in the woods?

How the fuck did you save up some money? I make 2,5k after taxes and I have 15k in the bank after working for several years. Fucking 1 bedroom apartment eats 900 euros every month.

I make about 4,7k after taxes. I pay 850€ for my flat and I have nothing else to spend it on.
I have my current job for 4 years now. I got only roughly half of what I earn now at the job before that.

Buy cars and rent them to taxi drivers. You will earn money daily. That’s what I did. Also “investing” (actually loaning) money for friends or people you know that want to start businesses or start-ups. Some kind of guarantee as a property or a car in case they don’t pay and if they don’t pay you keep the property (PROFIT!).

Amsterdam suburbs. City center is almost the same price though (probably because nobody in their right mind would want to live in the center of Amsterdam).
Deep in the country it's cheaper of course but even there you won't find a flat for 850.

No. People at my work are all decent guys. I like working with them.

But I wouldn't want to do anything where I would have to deal with average people. I have a hard time connecting with people inside my codegarch bubble anyway. I fear it is impossible with the majority of the population.
Especially when you start renting out things and it goes wrong you immediately have to deal with lawyers which is just a huge pain in the ass.

i wouldn't say mentally drained but stressed a little at times, especially when you try to befriend your opponent and find a right words without resorting to swearing and getting personal, it feels like you know that someone will come and point at something in your post, making you ashamed for sprite and popcorn after hard working day, maybe im not used to it so im getting this emotional, who knows

Crazy idea:

1. Set up an AI forex advisor for MT4
(even simple shit like Forex AI 4.0 would be ok)
1,5. Register as a trader.
2. Give it some testing
2,5. Download some history, USD/EUR is the best bc lowest "spread"
3. PROFIT

Here's the thing

4. Add your "neural forex" madskillz to your portfolio.

4,5. Become both a codegarch and an AIgarch

I have some hobbies which occupy me in my free time. I could dump more money into them but I doubt it would make them more enjoyable. I try not to buy things I don't really use regularly because they just clutter up space and are a pain to get rid off against.

I don't really know how to travel. I grew up very poor and my family never travelled with me somewhere else. Should I just pick a place on google maps then book a hotel there and go there? What would I do once I get there? I find it overwhelming to plan a vacation so I always just put it off.

Basically, yes.

GermanyBernd2024-05-05 20:17:33 · 2yNo. 309374reply
I don't see any benefit in buying a flat.
If it turns out that you have shitty neighbors you can't just move away. You can't easily switch jobs anymore because you are forced to live in one location. Unless you start to rent it to someone. And then you have to hope that you don't get shitty renters.
You can't do anything to the house unless all owners agree to do stuff. At the other end other owners can force you to pay for things in the house that you wouldn't want to do in the first place.
Also flats are somewhat expensive compared to small houses.

I might try to go on vacation to Croatia this summer if I don't put it of for so long until it is too late against. I want to swim in the sea.

Also I realized that I'm not comfortable with uncontrolled spending just to get rid of it. The most valid option would be to keep on saving and try to retire early. Also I need to find an organization that I would be comfortable donating all of it in case something happens to me that makes it impossible for me to spend it myself.

ah i can understand! i had the same feeling when first big money came in, i wanted to save some for next occasions, but mother has a completely different opinion about money spending, she said "money must have movement, it must be in flow" (that mean you should spend all of them), we had an argue about this, but since she's a parent figure she took my savings and bought expensive jewelry though we didn't have a need in these
GermanyBernd2024-05-06 09:53:48 · 2yNo. 309439reply
It does not work like that on the germany. The state does not allow you to build a cabin somewhere in the woods and let you live there. So you very unlikely find something like that on the market.

In one of the older talks of jordon peterson before he jumped the shark he talks that a lot of his patients had family issues and it is important for mental health to make peace with your family. In my opinion this also involved cutting off family members that behave toxic towards you. Otherwise they will continuously create mental stress in you which keeps you from making other positive changes in your life. Most Bernds are created by shitty parents.

You probably will have heard this already but the prime advice for younglings is to switch jobs every 2-3 years a couple of times for a better paid one. This can give you up to 30% more pay which you would never get if you stayed in the same company. Every time try to switch to a bigger company because they pay better it gets more soul draining though because you will have to deal with more legacy code and bureaucracy. Don't be that guy that stays 20 years at his first job with raises that only compensate inflation every year.
Endgame could be to go to ans OEM with comfy IG-Metall tarif and 35h. But then you most likely barely code anything anymore and only deal with bureaucracy all day. I am one step before that but I like it at my current job, so I probably won't go to ans Daimler/BMW/VW.
