how many hours out of those 40 is actually productive work?
GermanyBernd2024-04-13 14:21:40 · 2yNo. 305509reply
25-30h maybe.
But I couldn't even do more if I wanted to. I'm most productive at the beginning of the week and barely able to concentrate on fridays.
Imho taking breaks is part of the work because it is a precondition for the productive part of the day. The only thing I feel somewhat bad about is that when I work from home I take my shower during worktime.

don't you have any breaks included? in Poland there's a mandatory 5 min break every hour (for people working with computers for over 4 hours/day) and on top of that a 15 min break (for people working over 6 hours/day)
GermanyBernd2024-04-13 15:14:20 · 2yNo. 305518reply
In Germany if you work more than 6h you have to do ans 30 minute break and if you work more than 9h the break time must be 45 minutes. But this is not included in your worktime. So you effectively have to stay at work for 8h 30 minutes.
There are some regulations that tell you to take a 5-10 minute break every hour you work in front of a computer. But nobody does this.
GermanyBernd2024-04-13 15:33:36 · 2yNo. 305519reply
What do you do in the office when you are not really working?
PolandBernd2024-04-13 21:24:29 · 2yNo. 305537reply
so why do you feel bad about taking a shower during work hours if you're allowed a break? it's not like you're slacking off and taking an hour long bubble bath

learning, reading books, recently I reorganized my inbox

but I'm in the office only one day a week
GermanyBernd2024-04-13 22:23:08 · 2yNo. 305542reply
I work 3-4 days per week in home office and 1-2 days in the office. I try to keep the office days to a minimum, because it is annoying to not be able to slack off, when I don't have anything to do.
If I don't have anything to do in home office, I just turn on my private PC, watch YouTube, listen to music spend time on KC.
If I don't have anything to do when I'm in the office, I can't really do anything private, because I have colleagues behind me who could see my screen (I work in a Großraumbüro). So I just read some news articles and shit.

I doubt that it is allowed by law to brush my teeth and take a shower for 20-30 minutes while being clocked in for work. When I have to go to the office I have to do it before I go and then I have to work 30 minutes longer.
>he kind of tried to fuck me over
pls tell the story.

>I can't really do anything private, because I have colleagues behind me who could see my screen
usually noone cares as long as its safe for work and everybody surfs on the side. On my old job someone was fired for doing something porn related not sure if cp. I think they monitored the traffic. I had another colleague whose monitor was to the door and he was on 9gag all the time. Nothing ever happened to him.
I wouldn't browse on bernd.group due to the cp-posting but mainstream sites are fine.
Reading books like poland suggested might be a really great idea I'd like to try out. Just get it as pdf and noone will notice that this is not work related.

it's not that interesting, he dropped the ball on something crucial, which would result in delaying or completely derailing a project, and then tried to blame it on me

> I doubt that it is allowed by law to brush my teeth and take a shower for 20-30 minutes while being clocked in for work.
I never thought one could rebel against the law by brushing teeth

I wouldn't do any (even innocent) private browsing on your work computer, even if they don't actively monitor you, they surely log traffic and probably even can remotely take a peek at your screen
GermanyBernd2024-04-16 18:09:59 · 2yNo. 305912reply
> rebel against the law
Is this a polish euphemism for crime?

>they surely log traffic and probably even can remotely take a peek at your screen
I think this is not allowed on the germany. In my last job I had to sign something that allowed them to monitor my traffic in exchange for letting me surf privately there. But I didn't have to sign such a thing at my current job.
They do have some filters though. Youtube only runs in some limited mode and I tried to visit casey once by accident and got some message that it is blocked due to pornography.
PolandBernd2024-04-16 19:44:00 · 2yNo. 305925reply
is it law if it cannot be enforced?

> I think this is not allowed on the germany
doesn't mean they don't do it

some years back one of the higher-ups at my current company used to spy on employees via their build-in webcams, which is super illegal
GermanyBernd2024-04-16 20:35:58 · 2yNo. 305934reply
I never lie and I never cheat. I think life gets easier this way.
Saying that your working when not actually working is lying. So it is not a moral thing to do and nothing to be proud of. On the other hand it is impossible for a codegarch to actively program 40h ans week every week.

>doesn't mean they don't do it
I doubt that my current comp does this. Our managers do very little people managing.

Of course there is always some gap between what you aspire to be and who you really are. Also as a loner with very little social relationships it is probably easier not to lie than for hyper social beings just because the situations were someone would be tempted to lie don't come that often.
