> Charges including money laundering and committing robberies after drugging clients with sleeping pills are among the accusations that the prosecution intends to bring. They have ordered the police to detain 20 people from across the country. The operation targets a network of nightclubs formerly operating under the brand name Cocomo. Detectives have been conducting their operations since Friday, including in Krakow. The case was publicized by journalists from Wirtualna Polska.
> The first report about the case came from the Wirtualna Polska portal. The information was confirmed to their journalists by the spokesperson of the Central Bureau of Investigation of the Police, Iwona Jurkiewicz. As she added, further details will be provided after the operation is completed, which is on Monday.
> The spokesperson describes the entire operation as a "powerful blow to the network of nightclubs." She does not hide that the police entered go-go clubs in Warsaw, Poznań, Katowice, Bydgoszcz, Kraków, Lublin, Łódź, Rzeszów, and in the Tricity.
> The operation was carried out at the request of the Wrocław branch of the National Prosecutor's Office.
> The detainees are being transported to the capital of Lower Silesia, where procedures involving them will take place.
> Cocomo is a defunct brand of strip clubs. In Krakow, they operated at two addresses in the city center: 1 Grodzka Street and 6 Floriańska Street. They disappeared from the map in September 2014, but since then, the clubs have operated under other names, such as "Wild Night" (at Grodzka Street).
> In December 2014, the prosecution intervened following reports from 20 victims, mainly foreigners. They claimed they were misled about drink prices and when entering PIN codes. The victims estimated their losses at around 350,000 złoty.
> The owner of the strip clubs was convicted, not for cheating customers, but for failing to pay 3.6 million złoty in taxes on time.
> In December 2016, we reported on this case: "The first convicting verdict was issued in the case of former Cocomo clubs. Prosecutors across the country initiated dozens of investigations into the fraud allegedly committed by employees of strip clubs over 2.5 years. This involved extorting huge amounts of money from drunk and drugged customers, for example, for drinks. You could pay up to 100,000 złoty for one drink. Almost all proceedings were, however, discontinued. However, Krakow investigators managed to bring the former boss of Cocomo to court. The accusation did not concern extorting money from customers of the clubs but unpaid taxes, totaling over 3.6 million złoty. The accused voluntarily submitted to the penalty. The prosecutor and the court agreed to a fine of 55,000 złoty to be paid by him."
> "When the Cocomo brand disappeared, clubs under different names appeared, but they were still connected in business," writes wp.pl.
