Just was at the gym for the first time in months. Half an hour on the Elliptical trainer.
I want to start with strength training again as well, but last time I hurt myself because I did some exercise wrong (don’t know which), so I’m a bit scared.
GermanyBernd2024-01-29 17:13:04 · 2yNo. 299573reply
What did hurt?
If you want to age healthily you will have to do strength training to a certain degree for the rest of your life. That means that learning how to do the basic exercises correctly is it completely worth it.
When you go to the gym the next time you will pick out one exercise and watch 5 youtube videos about doing it correctly beforehand. Then you will do try to it. The time after that you chose a different exercise.

is someone really interrupting you? do they come over, tap your shoulder and say "oh please Bernd, look at my juicy ass", or do they just happen to exist in the same space as you?

the actual gym rules are 1) put back the weights, 2) clean up after yourself, 3) don't hog the machines, and - most importantly - 4) mind your own business

and if they come to the gym to take selfies - who cares? who cares if they only do cardio? let people be and maybe exercise some self restraint

A female dressing provocatively in the gym produces a hormonal response in males. It creates an urge in the male and that he has to actively suppress and that might be unwanted.

Saying that it's totally ok for females to dress in lingerie-tier clothes in the gym is similar to saying that it is ok for everyone to smell like shit in the gym.
It might be legal but if you are aware that it disturbs others and still do it it could be considered as asshole behavior.

seriously:
1) using female/male as a noun
2) implying men can't control themselves because hormones and urges (seriously? men aren't animals in heat)
3) saying gym clothes are provocative
4) comparing gym clothes (I guess he meant sports bras in particular) to lingerie

briefs are underwear, how is that comparable with gym clothes?

but I'll bite - that would be okay with me (not that it'd matter as I don't get a say in strangers' fashion choices)

but what's the core point? for me it all comes down to a simple fact that we don't get to dictate what others wear based on our personal preferences/feelings - that would be shifting the responsibility for your own behavior onto someone else (when in reality the only person responsible for you is you)

My point was that you can't just let everybody dress up however they want to and tell the people that feel uncomfortable with this to just look away because it is not that easy. You can't just look away if you have to share the same space. It is similar to body odor. At some point it goes from personal freedom to harassment.

GermanyBernd2024-02-06 16:50:09 · 2yNo. 300113reply
Actually yes. This year I switched to a face moisturizer cream with sun protection.

>bench pressing
Never do bench press without rows. Computer dwellers already have shortened chest muscles and if you do bench press on top you shorten them even more. This will pull on your shoulders and give you shoulder pain. Always make sure that your back is stronger than your chest. I have so many colleagues at wörk with a hump it is not even fun anymore.

If you want to do barbells you do starting strength. It is not much volume so it does not take very long https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=998224

If you want to do machines do circuit training. Some gyms have stuff like milon circle or egym. In this case you train on a machine for ~60s and then have ~30s or so to go to the next machine. Doing the circuit twice takes ~30 minutes and it provides a really good foundation. If your gym doesn't have that you might want to look up the machines and do the same with the machines in your gym.

mine makes my face whiter, a lot of crappy convenience store sunscreens do
they do work fine
also any glass "stops" the UV light (around . 1% shines through, i tested in the lab), but you should still wear sunglasses since tinted glass is what they use for keeping volatiles (oils, aromatics, unstable complex solutions) from breaking down due or reacting to sunlight in chemistry
