they are indeed hallucinogenic but not psychedelic – I would describe them, they are a bit like alcohol if it were also hallucinogenic but didn't make you as uncoordinated at same level of drunkenness

 

if you do not want them to hit you and just want to eat them (because they are very tasty) – I recommend ~20-30min cooking in a pot of salted water, then you can use them like any other mushrooms

Though I haven't had Amanita caesarea, a non-hallucinogenic, edible Amanita species – they're much more rare – I imagine they probably taste similar.
