No, I can't log in not even in save mode. All I can do is open the cmd window. Yeah I will wait until tomorrow.

I installed Windows 7 on the new SSD, but nobody told me that STEAM doesn't work anymore with Windows 7 REEEEEE. The strange thing is that I can access the old hard disk and copy and paste all data. However, I can't reinstall Windows 10 or upgrade the newly installed Windows 7.
GermanyBernd2024-01-07 16:51:02 · 2yNo. 298063reply
Steams has been informing their users about stopping backwards compability for a good while now.

If you are seriously unhappy with using Windows you should consider switching to a linux distribution - because Windows is not going to get "better", far from it.

Games on steam have no need to be compatible with Linux. Simply use Vine with Linux. Problems werent.

I meant to write Wine :DDDDD
sorry am drung
HungaryBernd2024-01-13 07:56:30 · 2yNo. 298373reply
Install Linux from Scratch.

As suggested with Wine, the number of programs can be vastly expanded. Not all of em will run, for example I couldn't make Shogun 2 run. But I got another release recently maybe that'll work. Sometimes it's fiddly to figure out what dlls are needed (see: Winetricks).
On the other hand some older games don't run on newer Windows, and they are fine on Linux/Wine.

In comparison to installing LFS and using Wine, no
GermanyBernd2024-01-13 15:15:18 · 2yNo. 298387reply
LFS is great for people who know what they are doing. End users like yourself might find more joy in using distributions such as Ubuntu (its very colourful!).
GermanyBernd2024-01-13 15:59:37 · 2yNo. 298388reply
And the German the Hungarian was replying to isn't such a person, so it's obvious it was a troll.
HungaryBernd2024-01-13 18:55:16 · 2yNo. 298390reply
Linux from Scratch was a joge, piling upon the classic Gentoo and might be half serious openSUSE.
As for Wine, it's serious. These days some other programs can help out such as PlayOnLinux, and stuff. It's really not that hard.
What really sucks is TES and Fallout 3+ games for me. They lag often and no tweaks (mods and config file edits) help. I think it's the sound, all audio files should be extracted from bsa-s and converted from mp3 to ogg. This solution fixes the radio lag for sure in F3 and New Vegas. I believe this has to be done with all the other sounds as well. In TES too. Not in Morrowind, for Morrowind I just use OpenMW, and should everyone.
GermanyBernd2024-01-13 18:55:19 · 2yNo. 298391reply
But there are no trolls on this board.
GermanyBernd2024-01-13 19:27:59 · 2yNo. 298396reply
Serious question: why don't you just use Windows? Install Windows 10 LTSC IoT, use some debloat scripts or whatever and you get a pretty clean, good OS.
HungaryBernd2024-01-13 19:37:05 · 2yNo. 298397reply
Because Windows really is shit, both in usability, and what can be done with it, and yes in the freedom RMS preaches about (I really agree with him in this).
I left Windows in 2008. Since then I use various Linux distros. I still helping out people friends, family, acquaintances with their computer stuff, and I nearly get braindick every time I have to sit 10+ minutes in front of Windows, so unusable. I converted a handful of people already to Linux (even women), and I won't stop doing that.
I don't game that much, I do more "work", and I enjoy such theoretical brain-teasers like the crap I wrote about the TES and F games. Last time I installed Skyrim, instead of playing I started to write a mod manager bash script. Then I stopped because I lost interest in Skyrim. Maybe one day I'll finish it. The script I mean.

Based and Wryebash-pilled.

Might as well install Windows Server 2022 then.
GermanyBernd2024-01-14 16:42:09 · 2yNo. 298438reply
Windows Server is worse than IoT in that it doesn't have support until 2032.
HungaryBernd2024-01-14 16:56:17 · 2yNo. 298441reply
It has nothing to do with Wryebash. It's the Bourne Again Shell.
