Can't you just buy one? Seems less tedious. No, don't color it, leave it as it is.
So I tried to make a magnet strip to hang up my knives in the kitchen out of plywood scraps.
It's basically just a piece of wood with some holes that hold magnets and then I glued some veneer on top.
In the process I also used a file which lost a bunch of metal dust. This got attracted by the magnets and formed these ugly black dots where the magnets were on the veneer.
To save it I wanted to stain the whole thing black. So I mixed some black pigment with linseed oil and stained the wood. Unfortunately the black pigment was also magnetic and stained the places where the magnets are blacker than the rest. So you can still see these dots on the pictures. It is a little better than before.
Should I leave it as it is or just paint the whole thing with a solid color?
My original intention was to not stain it at all. But I had already dark spots of metal dust where the magnets were on the wood and I tried to even it out.
I like these really minimalistic magnetic strips of wood. I think I sand the top veneer off again, glue on some new veneer, cut down the sides and go towards the simple strip of wood against.
those dots aren't so bad, you notice them easily because you know they're there, so I guess the question is - does it bother you enough to paint them over?

I like it and that butterfly is precious, but my one suggestion would be to get a plant in there pothos would be good since it's low maintenance and gives plenty of warning before dying and there are so many beautiful varieties

how does this work? Do you remove all the pans when you turn it on or just leave them there?

I dislike having to take care of a decoration item. I could get a plastic one but that would be ridiculous. Also I don't get much light there. The window goes to the east but there is a big building in the way.
I would like to have fresh herbs plants. But whenever I buy one I put so much of it into my food that I basically eat the plant completely in ans week.
Not sure what the yield per plant would be but I had a large flower pot in which I sprinkled seeds and many plants grew from it. I use basil and thyme a lot as I come from an Italian background and I never ran out.
Basil has a natural lifecycle where it dies off after 6 months or so, so I would start another pot to have mature plants ready to go.
All in all, growing the herbs required very little effort, just prepare the pot with soil and seeds and water occasionally.
remove them all and then be annoyed because your kitchen is now cluttered with pans
I would argue that you need to take care of all decoration items (e.g. dusting them) - but I don't want to derail this thread with my plant-related ramblings, so I'll just say that there's lots of plants that do well in low light environments
I was wondering recently how your mirror project went, nice! how do you slide the mirror open? and why do you keep tape in the bathroom?
Seems like the oven is the worst place you could store your pans. I have never dusted anything.
I glued some aluminum-L-profile to the back of the mirror at the sides. This forms a lip sticking out the front where I can hold the mirror. You don't see it in the pictures because I attached it afterwards.
I used the tape while attaching the cabinet to the wall. It is not permanently in my bathroom.
My current project is building ans new squat rack. But that is a lot of work.
I will sand everything off and try against.
