MongoliaPronouns!Bernd2023-12-09 13:24:29 · 3yNo. 295793reply
Greetings everyone, today I wanted to share a personal opinion on the topic "Pronouns". Now, as we all know during a time way back in the 14th century they/them pronoun was made. Although, They/Them was made to specifically address one or two things/persons.

"They/Them" problem is, because of some misinformed generation, some people believe they/them is a gender pronoun when it's not! You're not 2 person, you're not 3 person, you're 1! So either use he or she! Before They/Them, we used to say He/She when we didn't know the individual's gender.

"He/She" problem. Now I get that people often would want to be a girl or a guy. But I will use pronouns dedicated by your doctor. Only your birth deliverer has the right to give you the correct pronouns.

"It" Problem. "It" is specified to objects and animals! Most people use it as if they were some kind of animal or outer space alien.

Neopronouns: Xe/xem/xyr, ze/hir/hirs, and ey/em/eir. Seriously, what kind of gibberish are they using nowadays?! Why do they have to make everything so confusing? can't we use the old He/She system?

What are your thoughts on the matter? Remember to respect each other's opinions, and agree to disagree.

You're right, I shouldn't... I just wish something like this never happens in my country! It would make me feel better if I could read some arguments supporting or negating the issue.

Come to think of it. Mongolia doesn't exactly have a term to address gender. Only Ter/Chi/Ta.

Chi - Use it when talking to someone younger than you, be it a girl or boy.

Ta - Use it when talking to someone older than you

Ter - Use it on anyone.

I have an autistic aversion to the very sound of [ðeɪ], unrelated to its contemporary usus, so I use "he" when speaking about an unknown referent (which was the norm in standard English varieties not so long ago, although "they" was also a thing in many idioms) or "he/she" in more official situations, and just ignore any potential tumblresque nagging.
BulgariaBernd2023-12-09 15:39:43 · 3yNo. 295818reply
There's a very speculative hypothesis Proto-Mongolic had some sort of natural gender system which left only traces in the form of nominal suffixes at the time of Middle Mongol (no distinction in pronouns though).

it costs me nothing to not be an asshole and refer to people the way they want me to

Nah, that's not true, I've read some old stuff with they/them for unidentified single person. It wasn't used like that often but it occured.
Also, Shakespeare used it for that.

They/them is used when referring to a single person when their sex is unknown or is meant to be deliberately vague because it's not relevant to the story /could detract from it.
An egregious example would be:
>We found their body over here, sir
>damn it jenkins that's the fifth one this week, where's his body?
>This time it's a woman, sir.
>Oh. LMAO. Who cares. We have to catch this damn serial killer, he's killed 4 men this week.
Neither of those cases apply to pronoun usage. It's not unknown, you (and everyone else) knows what the the person is. And it's not like you're being coy by introducing yourself as a vague concept/person. I'll use they/them when I'm referring to friends as a one off in a story, when I don't want the focus to be on them.
>So I was hanging with someone yesterday, had lunch with them, gonna be late to dinner.
>Cool
(would be said to a jealous gf, for instance, who you don't want to be worried you're having an affair just because you're meeting some girl for a business lunch)
>Oh? Who are they?
<she didn't gloss over it
>she's a sales manager from a company we're trying to seal a deal with.
I.e. you and everyone else who knows / cares knows it's a girl.

Using they/them deliberately is a way to sidestep some nebulous disadvantage associated with your sex, like women and competence, so they say they're they (lol good luck ESLs) because "I'm not like those other women, I'm a they!", ironically proving the point because no amount of avoidance will allow you to actually escape from your sex.

>it costs me nothing to not be an asshole
Simultaneously, it costs them "nothing" to ignore it.
You call a man with a dress a he and he now has two options.
>1. He just brushes past it, because he's just trying to live his life as best he can.
Respectable, and I wouldn't give him any flack. Everyone has their own stuff to deal with, and while I prefer he not make it visible, people with visible disabilities exist regardless; it's not his fault he's mentally ill just like it's not a disabled person's fault he's crippled.
>2. He gets in your face or huffs and puffs
At that point, despite "not costing anything to not be an asshole", he has sought to, on some level, inconvenience or harm my life based on the world inside his head, be it social confrontation or attempting to get me fired or whatever else. Those kinds of people are not just trying to live their life, they're trying to force their way of thinking on you. No, sir, no amount of lip gloss will let me see you as a woman, and deliberately sidestepping it to not trigger a violent outburst is in fact proof that you're mentally ill and unable to handle otherwise normal interaction.

Now, that's only for the "personal reactions" part of the response. Once you involve legal matters, such as canada's or norway's or other states/country's laws that actually make it a crime to "misgender" someone, that's an entirely different can of worms whose ultimate tl:dr; is that the existence of such a law eliminates any idea of free speech (memes aside). I can elaborate on that if needed.

At least on a surface level.

I'm not a native English speaker so my acceptance shouldn't mean anything. I accept calling people by what they want to be called, I just treat it as a part of the name rather than proper pronouns I guess.

Agglutinative languages are the most natural languages there are. They grow words how life sprouts from a kernel. On the other hand Indo languages for creating grids and tables, very anti-life, crystal forms, not human at all. No wonder an Indo language is used to promote anti-life faggotry, fugging genders.

I think inventing new pronouns for yourself is something that children do.
It is fun while they are young. Most will grow out of it. If they don't they are very likely mentally ill.
I do understand it however if a tranny want to be called a she.

Make 'em. If 50% + 1 person uses it then they become legit. Or at least in a dialect.
What would they be?

i guess they should be names of places and people, since a name can be somehow be interpreted as the opposite of a pronoun

Well, that's just a "noun" (as "pronoun" is something that goes instead of a "noun" and is not an opposite of it)

Meh i've found out about that pronoun stuff because a character in my fav videogame is non-binary, or at least the fandom says so. I guess if i ever meet someone who wants to be called by they/them i'd refer to them that way just to be polite but it's not like i share their views.
