I once tried to replace the display of a smartphone by warming up the glue of the display with a blowtorch because I didn't own a heat gun and I think the electromagnetic field from the blowtorch fried something inside the phone because it was broke afterwards. I doubt it was the heat because I was really careful.

So my advice: don't use a blowtorch.

I once noticed that whenever I played a game I got some artifacts which got worse and worse. Like white squares that appeared and disappeared on random spots on the screen.

I figured it must have been the graphics card and read somewhere that if you bake it in the oven this resolders the contacts and then it works great against.

 

So when my parents were away I baked my graphics card in our oven for 45 minutes at about 180°C. Unfortunately, after I had hooked up everything against the artifacts had gotten so much worse that I couldn't even use it in normal operation anymore.

 

When it comes to repairing high tech electronics I am not the best.

For science someone had to do it.

It might sound stupid but it's a valid thing to try if your only other option is to throw it away tbh. I got the recipe from tomshardware forums or so.

And it's fixed!

I received the screen in mail on Tuesday. I didn't find the right screwdriver (star) so I decided to try at watchmakers and opticians. Couldn't find it there either. Today I decided to try find the closest possible size in my grandpa's toolbox (just regular but right dimensions) and hope for the best. It worked!

Buy an iPhone next time.
