doves (not to confuse with flying rats AKA pigeons)

they are quite lovely and one of the pair has even learned to fight off pigeons which try to steal their food (which is impressive given her smaller size and peaceful disposition)

No. I was never tested positive for it. But I had similar symptoms as I had when I had what I think was corona. I think I had it three times so far. Only the first time was pretty uncomfortable with 39° fever. The two times after that were rather mild. Maybe half as bad as a cold.

Why do you dislike pigeons?

This time I had digestion problems as well but not nearly as bad as the first time. Did you already have it?

I doubt that doves shit less than pigeons if you disregard the size difference. In german a derogatory for dog is "shit pump". But that does not stop you from liking them.

that doesn't sound very fun, did you get vaccinated?

I don't think I've ever had it, even though last year I spent a month at my parents' place when my mom had covid (confirmed by a test, and I got tested then too to check if I'm maybe asymptomatic, but no)

> I doubt that doves shit less than pigeons if you disregard the size difference
that's true, but I've never seen doves shit all over my windowsill, and pigeons do it all the time (they sometimes even use the water dish I put out as a toilet - what animal in their right mind shits in the same place it eats?)

same with dogs, they usually shit where it's appropriate to do so

I suppose you haven't missed much, since the only good thing they have is fries (but you probably could make tastier ones yourself)

Yes I got vaccinated twice. Both times I felt really bad for two days after. Maybe half as bad as the actual sickness itself. This is the same for me with flu vaccinations. That's why I don't do those anymore. They make me feel sick but I don't get any guarantee that it actually does anything.

Are you immune to the flu, too? Do you think that you do something special in particular to give you a supernatural immune system?

I get a cold maybe twice a year. Once at the beginning of winter and once nearing the end. It used to be only once but it's gotten worse since I switched to a big company with many people. Sometimes it does not result in a cold were I have to lie in my bed for 1-2 days but then I walk around with constant headaches for two weeks feeling bad until it goes away which is not more pleasant.

As soon as one of my colleagues comes to the office coughing and sneezing I know that I will get it a week later and there is nothing I can do about it. I tried to stay at home when I notice that coworkers are obviously ill but this just makes me feel bitter and I don't know if it helps at all or just delays the inevitable so I just take it.
I called in ill on tuesday and spent the day sleeping and playing vidya and enjoyed it quite a lot. So maybe the cold once in a while has also something positive.

I exclusively breath through my nose. It doesn't help.

why don't people stay home when they're sick? it's a mystery to me, although I suppose having your pay docked 20% during sickness related absence is incentive enough for some (but still, if they insist on working they could just switch their schedule around and work from home instead of being incubi of viral plague)

I rarely get a runny nose or a sore throat and usually don't have to cough at all. Only thing happens when I'm sick is that I get really bad headaches, feel bad, can't concentrate and feel really tired. Even if I would take something against the headaches I would still feel bad so I don't see a purpose. The only thing I do is drink a lot of water/tea.

You don't get a pay cut in germany if you are sick. You don't even have to go to the doctor at my job as long as you stay home for less than four days. Also you can always spontaneously decide to work from home. There is no reason not to do it besides not caring about others.
But it needs only one individual in group to ruin it for all and make everyone sick and there is no way to make everyone behave responsibly. So this isn't a topic worth getting angry over it.

The recipe is only in austrian but here you go:

In hindsight I shouldn't have made a cabbage/onion salad. In combination with the diced tomatoes/peppers mixture it made everything a little soggy. But I was concerned that raw cabbage would be too tough.
If I would make it again I would probably just use lettuce or cabbage and onion without any dressing instead and probably buy the breada. Then I only have to prepare the meat, yoghurt sauce, and tomato/pepper mixture which would drastically reduce the preparation time.

GermanyBernd2023-09-04 16:15:22 · 3yNo. 286382reply
Austrian and German ist mostly the same. But they have a nasty dialect and some words are different. Also I've never met an Austrian who wasn't arrogant towards germans and very right wing for some reason.

I noticed your absence the last couple of days. It is so nice being immersed in a video game. It is like a dream that goes over multiple days. I'm tempted to try BG 1 again to finally play through all titles.

I got my cooling blanket last week and tried it out yesterday. It got too cold to be able to fall asleep. Also the hoses are really short and I fear to wiggle the blanket out of my bed in my sleep which would pull the cooling unit with it and cause it to fall to the ground breaking it and spilling water everywhere.
Technologically it is really genious though. The water is pumped to the top of the unit and spread over a sieve to run down a honeycomb like structure which gets blown at by the fan. This causes part of the water to evaporate which cools the rest which gets then pumped through the blanket.
Feeling cool is more about transporting the body heat away from the body than cooling down the environment. This feels so much more efficient than an AC.

I paid 100€ for it. I expect it to last a while. Also I will only use it with distilled water because I figure these small pumps in an open system dependent on evaporation are prone to calcify.
As long as I have the mat I could build a really high quality one with an aquarium pump and water cooler parts for pc's. Wouldn't that be cool?

When I make broth it is usually so full of gelatin that it turns solid in the fridge.
I make it in the microwave and throw 2-3 eggs and ramen noodles in there. Along with the vegetables that are already in there I have to eat the majority with a fork.
It's one of those meals that for some reason leaves you extremely satisfied when you are done with it. I try to have either this or self-made lasagna in the freezer at all times.
