Is it better to be cruel and honest or to be dishonest to a friend? A friend of mine invited me to go to a concert together, he even already bought two tickets, but I don’t want to go. So either I could tell him simply I don’t want to go, which might hurt him or I could lie and say I can’t go because of reason x or just go against my will.

Why don't you want to go?

my rule of thumb: if it's a close friend then tell the truth, if it's more of a acquaintance then just make up an excuse

you could also come up with an alternative way of spending time together that would be enjoyable for the both of you

I don’t like the particular pieces that get played that much that I would go to a concert of them. It’s a classical concert btw.

Why would that answer hurt him? It's not like he composed these pieces.

Honesty doesn't worth it in friendship often times

i have a friend who had a crush on a girl, and told me many times about it. And i also have a different friend who after a few years married that girl and even invited me to the wedding. I ofcourse didn't tell my first friend that i was on a wedding with the girl he loved. It would be "honest", but what is there to gain from that honesty? The guy who married that girl is also a big jerk, so it would be especially painfull for him to learn that his youth love married that jerk and that i was there to see them kiss in the wedding costumes.

How often do you go to classical concerts? It might still be a worthwhile experience even if you don't dig the music 100%.

Why do you have friend who is a big jerk?

He maybe a jerk, but he is also great DM in games of Dungeons and Dragons. So it worth it when he gathers all his friends and invites me and we do big and invested games with roleplay and tabletop elements, sometimes we even fight on real swords. Shit like that is so fun, i can give him a pass on a few flaws.

Honesty isn't being rude. You can tell the truth as is without hurting others' feelings.

It is possible to be honest without being cruel. I recommend being honest with friends, if you want them to stay your friends.

If you promised to go and (s)he bought tickets after that. You pretty much have to go.

You could stop being a faggot and just go to the concert and finally spend one evening not in front of your computer masturbating

Are you ans socially retarded?
I have ans online group (from twitter) and whenever we make meetups one member constantly keeps making up bullshit excuses so he doesn't have to socialize irl. It's annoying.
AzerbaijanBernd2023-07-02 18:10:12 · 3yNo. 277107reply
What do you do on those meetups?

Aside from getting shitfaced, last time we grilled, went to the lake, watched F1 (Canada GP), went to the lake against at like 10pm, drank a bottle of whiskey while swimming in 16°C lake, then I don't think anyone of us remembers well how we got back (we woke up at dacha)

Not wanting to go doesn't hurt your friend lmao.

I was expecting something much worse.

One of my close friends always wants to sing in front of people but he really does not sing well. Now THIS is a problem because he's got a bit of female mindset, telling him the truth (which he might or might not be aware of) really could backfire.
