I think it's a money grab. It's quite sad that people who make such good music have such bad taste regarding merch designs.

I think, one of the members is responsible for all the artwork (and I would assume that also applies to the merch design).

They aren't. There are few bands that consistent, melodically and rhythmically complex witch such deep and beautiful lyrics.

So maybe he does the artwork but it's definitely someone else who just implements the artwork into a shirt design

I think, you misunderstood. The first picture is the front and the second the back of the same shirt. And there are two shirts: the yellow and the white one.

I would get the first one.

Beige is more interesting than white also no chance of getting grey over time. And I dislike the frame around the humanoid thing in the second one.
