Tbh empanadas and all their variants are just some kind of meat stuffed inside some kind of mass. So the German versión is ok in my book (and now I want to try it!)

It's just the same as pierogi with meat tbh, it does not have the original distinguishable style of something like empanadas or ravioli or jiaozi

Well, technically speaking, for example, the Chinese version of empanadas (I don’t recall the name right now) does not have the shape and yet everyone considers it like a Chinese versión of empanadas.
