Do you use your electronic devices in your native language or English (if that's not your native language) or some other language altogether?
GermanyBernd2023-02-18 18:34:01 · 3yNo. 255903reply
english, always
GermanyBernd2023-02-18 18:36:26 · 3yNo. 255905reply
The annoying thing about that is that if I want to search something in German in my browser, it will mainly suggest me English websites.

Same. I started doing this when I bought the Google Nexus 7 in 2012 and found out that the Android UI in German was a big mess and not really polished (at the time of the release at least)

I had one too, good old times.

This should be fixable by adjusting browser settings. I just took a look at Brave's settings: Languages - Preferred languages - Websites will show content in your preferred languages, when possible, but you might have similiar settings already?
Thinking about it I might know what you actually mean. But I just click the "show results in X language" button

It also depends on which search engine one uses, I guess. I often start out by using DDG and then when I realize that its results are suboptimal, I switch to Google.

Why not use https://searx.tiekoetter.com/ (or any other searx instance https://searx.space/) so you can use all of them (if you want to) It's one of the few cookies my browser is allowed to keep. You could also use a custom URL to save your settings, but I didn't like that
GermanyBernd2023-02-18 18:47:20 · 3yNo. 255912reply
Mmh, I tried out searx on multiple occasions and multiple instances and every time some search engines would not be crawled or no images were shown in the image search or some other problem. So this particular instance works well for you?
GermanyBernd2023-02-18 18:48:27 · 3yNo. 255913reply
Yeah, tiekoetter works great for me. I've been using it for a while now (rarely I encounter "requests blocked" or similiar. But it does happen here and there)
GermanyBernd2023-02-18 18:50:45 · 3yNo. 255914reply
Maybe I will try it then. Thank you for the recommendation.

But a question because you said you used the Brave browser: have you ever tried out Brave's own search engine "Brave Search"? I haven't used it extensively, but on the occasions I used it, its results satisfied me and I found them quite good.

Recently switched phone language from English to Dutch because I'm trying to learn it and hoped it would help. But mostly everything is in English because I don't like switching contexts too much and there's English everywhere anyway (I work for an international company, use English languaged websites, apps etc. for everything because they're not available in my native language, also intl imageboards)
GermanyBernd2023-02-19 07:12:36 · 3yNo. 256033reply
Mmh, I see. I appreciate my native language deeply and I take a somewhat critical view of the English that is spreading everywhere and replacing partly German in some contexts.
