RussiaSmoking thredaBernd2023-02-16 06:36:15 · 3yNo. 255453reply
When I discovered /int/ for myself, it was in yr. 2013, I used to smoke "Donskoy Tabak" (Don Tobacco) sigs in regular basis, and them costed 18₽ per pack (it was in before-Crimea-annexion times, before sanctions, and before the Ukrainian War, when exchange course was 32₽/1$, so they costed appx 0.6$), and used to smoke Camel Filters when pretended to be like a fancy bernd, they costed 52₽ per pack (appx. 1.6$)
I worked as a forklift operator an my salary was 110₽/hr.(or appx. 3.22$/hr)

Now I smoke some Camel Original Filters (on pic. I bet you can afford them in Russia only, it is NOT the Camel Filters) and they cost 150₽ per pack (after Crimea annexion and war with new exchange course 75₽/1$ it would be 2$ per pack), also you can still afford "Donskoy Tabak" sigs (140₽ per pack, but they became crappy as shit, and a Camel Filters, but they are around 185₽ рer pack - too expensive for poor Bernd).
I still work as a forklift operator and instead of 110₽/hr I get played 150₽/hr. now (but with new exchange course it would be 2$/hr. only)
Considering the fact I smoke 2 packs per day I work for two hours per day only to afford fags, and also I spend 120$/month for sigs only.

How much tobacco cost in your country and how much you need to work to afford it?

Back when I was still smoking I mostly enjoyed Memphis Blue.
My father smoked regular Memphis which were just awful, but successfully quit and became a militant non-smoker ever since.
I remember the cost for a pack being about 4 Euros, then I switched to vaping 12 years ago and stuck with it ever since.

Except when I'm in Thailand, as it is forbidden there and as a tourist you can quickly end up with a high fine/bribe to pay.
There I go for regular Marlboro or even Marlboro Arctic X for the nice chill while it's hot.

Vaping is dirt cheap, costing 10-20 Cents per day at most, as I have a source for untaxed nicotine liquid and stashed some for the next 5 years.

All smokers should be lined up and shot.

They were like 5.50 or something when I started in 2004, now they are $12

I only use tobacco for joints.

I always go for american spirit gold, it is 5.50€

OP why dont you roll cigs yourself?
It's cheaper and fun too.

I don't smoke & I've smoked more weed than tobacco (even tho tobaccofags always cured joints with their stuff, it's macabre)

this, everyone I knew from my colleagues who smoked rolled cigs, buying cigs is seen as a boomer thing

I am weaning off smoking cigarettes and started using nicotine pouches.
I am down to one cigarette in the morning (because coffee, and I haven't found nicotine pouches without any flavor yet nor a compatible one) and in the evening

To the OP question: When I smoke I roll them. A pouch of my tabacco costs 5€ for 30g and it lasts me like 2 weeks (nowadays)

I quit smoking 5 months ago, sometimes I miss it and would like to have at least just a single cigarette. Smoking mostly rolling tobacco I ended up spending maybe like 20-25EUR/month for smoking, I wasn't a chain smoker though, more like 8-10 cigarettes a day max
United StatesBernd2023-02-17 09:20:13 · 3yNo. 255598reply
I quit like 6 years ago. At the time they were about $8 a pack in my home state, but i could drive to the next state over in 30 minutes and get them for $5 a pack because of lower tax rates. Now i think they go for around $10 or $12 a pack in both states

I just use nicotine pouches like
>>255478 now. I vaped for a while but they started taxing that like crazy too plus the maintenance of the vape tank was kind of annoying

When I got into my 30's I started to feel so bad from smoking that I couldn't keep it up anymore. Spend a couple of years smoking about once a month in the evening with a couple of beers and then throwing the rest of the pack away so I wouldn't continue on the next day. Nowadays I neither smoke nor drink alcohol anymore.
Whenever I have the opportunity to drink or smoke I just try to visualize how bad I will feel in the morning on the next day. Then at the morning on the next day I try to cherish how not hungover I feel. It is just not worth it.

why did you start smoking in the first place?
GermanyBernd2023-02-17 14:47:37 · 3yNo. 255622reply
It helps a lot with anxiety.
I have severe anxiety of making phone calls to get doctor appointments for some reason. Going to the doctor is not so difficult for me at all but the phone calls wrecks my nerves. This gets way easier during or after smoking ans cigarette.

wouldn't a nicotine patch provide the same effect?

you should start calling various places for practice, if you do it enough times you'll get used to it and stop stressing; I had to make a lot of calls last week for work and at first my heart rate would spike, my skin would flush and I just wanted to crawl away and hide somewhere but now I'm doing okay; try it, it's going to be hard at first but you'll get better, I promise (it also helps when you have no choice but to make a call, because then you can't make excuses and put it off indefinitely)
GermanyBernd2023-02-17 15:21:39 · 3yNo. 255632reply
I've never used nicotine patches. I vaped for a while but vaping is a lot different to real smoking. Smoking brings tons of other cancerous chemicals into your system that do other stuff as well. The carbon monoxide makes you dizzy. Stuff like that. Nicotine alone feels way less intrusive.

I wouldn't know who to call for practice.
I had some health problems two years ago where I had to call lots of doctors for a gastroscopy and it got very easy. But then I haven't had to call anyone for a couple months against and I relapsed.
I think it has a lot to do with lifestyle. If you have a lifestyle were you continuously interact with unknown people you just stop caring. If you follow a shutin lifestyle it will inevitably get harder against. You don't battle your demons once but have to battle them over and over against.

well, you could call a pizza place and ask questions about their menu and delivery options or perhaps a travel agency; you don't need to buy anything, just ask questions; you could even call your government (the municipal office here has a department just for taking calls from citizens); but you are right, if you're not exposed to stressors regularly then your resistance weakens

hope you're doing better health-wise though

I wonder what it takes to like a person. One could argue that you like a person, if you have a positive attitude towards him. But what are the preconditions for such an attitude? What did this person have to do to achieve such a status in your eyes? I think, liking people is essential in life. Typically one builds deep and strong relationships with people they like, sometimes one is too shy to confess that they like someone. I'm curious about the level of intimacy that has to exist to be able to say you like someone. The internet is a very impersonal space, so I think it's hard to build relationships through it. Most if not all people present a certain version of themselves on the internet, maybe it could even be called a mask they hide behind, which makes it incredibly hard or even impossible to determine their true character. So how do we become affected to them through the internet? It is possible to like their mask. In the end it is not possible to distinguish between the mask and the true character as an outsider.
PolandBernd2023-02-17 17:44:00 · 3yNo. 255667reply
there are levels to liking a person, I guess; on the most basic level I think they just need to be friendly towards you; but if they're good to talk to, say interesting things or make you question yourself (and grow as a person as a result) then it's a level up; it helps when they share your values or if they don't then are at least open minded and try to see things your way (even if they disagree; and it should work both ways); I think it's also important if a person is able to argue in a respectful way; I don't know, there's a lot of things that factor into liking people

I'd argue that it's impossible to fully know anyone, even if they don't hide behind a mask, doesn't matter if you interact with them IRL or only over the internet
