Almost every day lately I buy beer from the same store and it's usually the same cashier with the same forced conversation.

"how's it going?"
"good, you?"
"good"

Then he ask my date of birth because he has to enter it into the computer for alcohol sales.

Then after a long pause he says

"it still raining out there?" and I respond with
"yep" or "off and on" or maybe the occasional "yeah it's pouring" (it is pretty much always raining this time of year)

On a few occasions we struck up a genuine conversation about fishing or local geography but I appreciate the predictability of our interactions.

Also I overheard from a conversation he had with another customer that he fucked up his back while in the army but he got screwed out of his disability pension due to some technicality so he has to wageslave at this corner store to make ends meet. Kinda sad
