Indeed, Christmas is just the nordic Yule with a christianized face. The trees, the raindeers, the elfs, the red-white color pattern. All of that comes from Yule. Even Santa Claus is pagan, despite he supposedly being based in Saint Nicholas, he has more to do with Odin than with this saint; a old homeless bearded man living in the north pole (hyperborea) surrounded by raindeers, that's Odin. The Cucktholic Church in an attempt to christianize pagan holidays turned it into the birthday of jesus, but nowhere in the bible it says that jesus was born today.
I still don't find it appealing to celebrate it. Also, these holidays are based in the position of planets and constellations, the stations of the year and other astrologic and astronomic stuff that in the Southern Hemisphere is different from the Northern Hemisphere, which makes it even more absurd to celebrate today. What is supposed to be celebrated today is winter's solstice, and that here would be the 21 June, not today. Just like how Easter here should be celebrated around september here and not april, since Easter is just the pagan holiday of Ostara that was celebrated as the spring's equinox. And Halloween is the autumn's equinox, which here would be in late March. Today, we should technically be celebrating Midsummer.
