My company gives an extra week of vacation per 6 months of long term overseas business assignment.
They call it home leave and will pay for your plane tickets. It is intended for you to go home and spend time with your family, but technically you can book the plane tickets anywhere, and since I am an incel loser I have no one to spend time with in the US.

Therefore I consider using it to go to Europe for the first time.
Any Euros have any advice about where I should go and what I can do? Germany would be my main target destination.

Sächsische Schweiz (Saxon Switzerland)
Kyffhäuserdenkmal (Kyffhäuser Monument)
Bayerische Alpen / Schloss Neuschwanstein (Bavarian Alps / Neuschwanstein Castle)
Walhalla (Walhalla (memorial))

Just some ideas...

Thanks, I will look those up.

I want to visit Essen, even though I heard it's a shithole now that is where my grandma came from and her side of the family still lives there I believe, though I don't know them.
I wish I knew exactly where she lived in that city. Her house was bombed but it would be interesting to see the general area.

I also want to pay my respects to the graves of Bach and Mendelssohn.

Other than that I don't have much plans. I don't think I will stay in Germany for the entire time. I'd like to do something in Norway too, and then maybe go to Italy and see the typical tourist stuff like St. Peter's.

I have an entire week and I hear Europe is easy to travel around in.

Never been there, but heard the same. All major cities in Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia) are shitholes.
>I have an entire week and I hear Europe is easy to travel around in.
A week is nothing. Especially if you plan to travel between countries. I personally would prefer to experience one location fully than many locations only briefly.

Oh I agree with that, a week is nothing for all of Europe, I just meant to say that I am not locked into staying at one location. I will probably do a lot of traveling while there but seeing certain sites is very meaningful for me so I don't mind if I'm on a train most of the time.

i found istanbul to be an awesome place, and it has a lot of european relics that can be felt/seen to this day. There is a huge freedom in the city, and relatively speaking, it is extremely cheap. I can't begin to list off the things to do, but if you're interested in knowing more then let me know.

Budapest was neat but less so than Istanbul. It's relatively inexpensive but they nickel and dime you for most things. The public transit is great - almost always reliable and available in like 5 minute intervals, takes you to everywhere you can go. Aquincum(!), SzentLukascs Baths, Memento Park, Vaci utca, Central Market Hall and generally all of District V are great. Take walks along the danube too.

I was only in Vienna for a day but it blew me away. Spend time at Stehpensplatz, visit the rathaus and museum quarter, take a trek to the schonbrunn palace, all are wonderful places. I will spend more time there in the future and unfortunately can't recommend much more.

Bratislava was... Bratislava. No need to go there

What season of the year that's going to be? Essen and other towns in that agglomeration aren't very interesting places but there's this nice national park around German-Belgium border if the weather is goid. Also, all of the Netherlands are close so I definetely recommend coming here when you got bored of the region.
A week isn't much btw. For Italy alone or even Norway it's not nearly enough.

Bratislava is cheap and tasty. I'd recommend to combine it with Vienna, just to eat and sleep there.

That's interesting. You hear a lot from tourists about the dreaded 'German stare'. I didn't know Turks do this too
TaiwanBernd2022-12-18 09:51:48 · 4yNo. 244131reply
They really love to stare in Asia. In this country it's rare to see a Westerner, especially outside of Taipei. Several times a week I have people stop in their tracks, turn around, and just stare at me like I'm an exhibit in a museum or something.

do they ask to take photos with you?
TaiwanBernd2022-12-18 10:57:16 · 4yNo. 244145reply
No. I don't think they like Westerners very much.
There is an assumption that you are here to fuck their women because you are a loser who couldn't make it back home.
If you are Chad they might ask for pictures though.
