Why does a company like twitter has 7500 employees?
It's just a fairly simple website. I can't believe that you need more than 100 people to maintain something like that.

If you really need to moderate this heavy you should be able to automate this with AI.

They fired a whole bunch of people recently.

haven't they asked some of them to come back though?
RussiaBernd2022-11-12 20:44:45 · 4yNo. 238789reply
Yes :) Musk made too wide of a gesture and swept some valuable engineers away. I hope they asked for a raise before coming back.
PolandBernd2022-11-12 20:53:11 · 4yNo. 238791reply
I hope they don't come back (unless the raise is ridiculously good, like 5x their previous salary, but that seems unrealistic), working for unstable man-child sucks because you never know when he's going to come up with another brilliant idea like printing code or bringing in tesla engineers to pass judgement lol

That's not the point. Why would any company employ like 2-10 times more people than it actually needs?
RussiaBernd2022-11-12 21:06:11 · 4yNo. 238794reply
I'm not sure why would they do it, but it's been going on for a while. Every big tech company is overstaffed 2-10 times (as you said).

Such is the current market I guess.
1. gotta grow fast to please investors
2. all top tier engineers are already busy

Sounds like a bubble to me.

It's not only the big tech companies. For some reason modern companies are filled with people who MANAGE other people (i.e. doing nothing) instead of being full of the actual productive workers.
I don't claim to know why it is like that - but logically thinking investing in productive workers would benefit the company much more instead of having useless people hired. Maybe companies could draw a line and make a policy where they would hire a maximum of 1 useless person (ex. manager/instagramthot/guy with long title that doesn't mean anything and he sends some emails) for 10 productive workers (ex. codemonkeys)?

I used to work as a manager (of managers) and I did like 4 different jobs at once in that role, and most of this was because I managed a drooling retard (who also managed drooling retards) among two other people (one was great and the other was okay). It's true that I did almost nothing for the good manager since she had shit on lock.

Now I'm in another role at the same company and I'm pretty sure that the guy who replaced me doesn't do much aside from 'managing.' there was also a counterpart of mine who did hardly anything himself and just shit out opinions and half baked ideas

Tl;dr, it's pretty true what you mentioned about management in my experience, but my company also isn't some well oiled machine

you need a lot of people and a lot of coders to maintain and develop a multimillion user backend.
simple site you see is only a tip of the iceberg.

waste like a year on 12 hours per day studying if you want to write software or web backend, i think it's enough to get you started on junior position.
if you want to do web frontend i think half a year is enough to get you started.

Make a couple of these online bootcamps were you get a certificate at the end. Then put these certificates into your CV and get a position as lowpaid bydlocoder . Then change every 1-3 years your job for a better paid one until you think you earn enough.

If twitter is in decline, why worry? Perhaps, the real worry is, the rest of the internet is in decline too, and Elon Musk manages better?
