Update. I texted him and had a short back and forth before he ghosted me and didn't reply to a question I asked.

 

I didn't get to ask him for lunch, but that's life.

In normie logic you don't reestablish contact after months not seeing each other, unless you are really good friends. Why is that? No one will ever know. Just keep trying, you become cold to rejection after a while and forgiving.

I mean he didn't keep in contact with me either when he left other than to text me once out of the blue asking about the job. So I didn't feel I was inconsiderate about not keep in touch.

 

But I'm not too down about it, I'm trying to be better about these things and be more social and less in my head about things. So I feel like this is an accomplishment.
