The hatred that average Russians demonstrate towards Ukrainians is their "illegal" hatred of their own government "legally" projected onto a neighbouring country. Therefore, Russians solidarize with their government on the grounds of hating it passionately, while accepting this absurd conflict, offered by Moscow, as a way of fulfilling their chthonic power fantasy, with Kremlin and oligarch villas in mind and Ukrainian dachas at hand, much like a young gentleman who closes his eyes to imagine his loved one, while actually fornicating a harlot.

 

I propose the term "projected resentimiento" to describe this quaint phenomena.
