Was walking through some woods when out of nowhere this little fellow started barking at me as loud as a dog.

I hope he found his mother again.

My cat hates them though.

i don't even know if they can feed themselves at that age
its better not to touch them, because if you interfere with nature, you get some blame on yourself if something gets wrong. Better let everything happen as it is

I was flabbergasted about this little creature having such a loud voice and even making a few steps towards me in order to try to intimidate me. Immediately I realized that he's in distress. I captured this video and went away. I hope that he wasn't eaten by foxes, but my cat hopes that he was.

Do you have your cat on a leash while walking through the forest at night?
SwitzerlandBernd2022-07-29 21:56:46 · 4yNo. 204283reply
When introducing him to his new neighbourhood, I did walk him through the forest, but not on a leash. That was months ago, but I recently saw him attack one of these weasels/marders.

Cute I don't know what, I hope it's fine.

That's a Steinmarder, and you should be careful they can fuck a cat up pretty good in a fight., especially when a new cat enters their territory. They are capable of killing a young cat and leave a grown cat behind with some serious damage, it's a somewhat even matchup.
GermanyBernd2022-07-30 00:03:39 · 4yNo. 204321reply
Usually cat and marten will avoid each other, a marten will never enter a cat's familiar territory and know how to keep distance. However, if a new cat enters a marten's territory he will be ready to defend it if the cat tries to get cocky. I'm pretty sure we have one in the garden here, it always makes loud as fuck steps at night and my cat gets all excited when she hears him and jumps up the table on the balcony to observe (she is an indoor cat but we let her out in the garden during day time). Recently I heard some loud bird screeching and screaming in the middle of the night, pretty sure he took a hit at a nest.

He is insured for 5000CHF against damage, they're not.
Not even.

Based sneaky Bergjude, but I mean they are wild animals, they might share similar settings in terms of size and sharp claws and teeth (I think cats have more body weight on average), but they are used to fighting every day, surviving, they are agile and fit as fuck, climbing up trees and fucking up birds, they don't get fed and petted every day, and they are very stubborn about their territory and don't like to change it. I would be concerned about my cat's safety.
Is your cat some sort of fancy breed or why did you insure him for so much?

>but they are used to fighting every day, surviving..
This applies to my cat too.

>I would be concerned about my cat's safety.
Car roads concern me more.

>Is your cat some sort of fancy breed or why did you insure him for so much?
He's not castrated, like his siblings who are now dead. One died after a car accident, the other due to vaccine induced cancer, no joke.
My alive kot is five years old and lived wild for the past for two years. I visited him monthly during that time and I'm still refusing to believe it, but he got along very fine. I petted his girlfriend and his offspring.

Then he had a serious car accident and barely survived. It's a wonder that he's still alive according to the veterinarian, and even more so that he regenerated without lasting damage.

He probably lost 5 out of his 7 lives, but the remaining two are insured.

He was already insured before the accident. Insurance covered the 2500CHF cost after the accident.

Sad, yeah cars are still the number one cat killers. My cat has the FIV so she technically isn't even allowed to go outside or she might infect other cats when fighting, and also it's an apartment situation where she couldn't really leave and enter as she pleases, plus a lively street around. I let her out in the hallway and the basement and in the fenced garden, but it seems to be enough adventure for her and I'm relieved I don't have to worry about her getting hit by a car. She even caught a mouse recently in the basement

>FIV
There's no vaccine that protects 100% against that, and transmission isn't 100% either.
It's a difficult situation. I'm sure you thought it through. Hard chices for cat lovers.

>also it's an apartment situation where she couldn't really leave and enter as she pleases
What appartment situation is that? I live in a rented appartment myself and it's imperative for me that my cat has access to the outdoors whenever he wants.
GermanyBernd2022-07-30 02:12:26 · 4yNo. 204355reply
2nd floor apartment, balcony too high for her to climb and walls around it unfavorable, only exit is the apartment door + house door

You are a very loving cat owner. Your cat looks quite loving too.
Would cuddle and not spend much time thinking about the FIV :3
