I am very confused by the behavior of an old school mate on Steam. He has bought over 1300 games on Steam over a very short amount of time and only has played very few and for a very low amount of hours. He is also constantly adding new games to his wish list.

Look at these strange stats
Games owned: 1300
Games played: 40 (that's only 3 percent!!)
Games played more than 10 hours: 7
And a single game played for over 100 hours

What do you think are his motivations?

Does he have a lot of money to spare? Maybe he wants to get a high steam user level for whatever reasons or something. Do you suspect him having a psychotic episode?

It seems to be a thing.

it seems that someone doesn't know how to use their money
GermanyBernd2022-07-26 17:12:04 · 4yNo. 203292reply
His user level is pretty low, so I don't think that's it.

But the games he buys and the games he used to play are very different. At first I thought maybe he became a dad and gave the account to his child. But then he would actually play the games.
Also he buys the STRANGEST stuff. No rhyme or reason. From hentai games with Chinese titles (he never played any of them) to indie games no one has ever heard of. From 20 year old Disney games to modern mobile game ports. It looks like someone randomly clicked on 1300 games on the steam store and bought them.
GermanyBernd2022-07-26 17:20:23 · 4yNo. 203293reply
I randomly picked a few games and 3 of them had all time peaks of 20 - 80 players and a bunch don't even have steam pages anymore. wtf

bot
probably buying random games to look more realistic for when he starts spamming his bullshit or whatever his goal is
GermanyBernd2022-07-26 17:29:35 · 4yNo. 203297reply
But why so many games and why games that cost $30+
SloveniaBernd2022-07-26 17:30:15 · 4yNo. 203298reply
probably it's still his bank acct getting drained after it was hacked
GermanyBernd2022-07-26 17:36:55 · 4yNo. 203299reply
Could be. But he has been playing a few games the last 2 weeks and changed his profile layout and background not too long ago. And why would a hacker add games to the wishlist every 2-5 days?
NetherlandsBernd2022-07-26 17:43:24 · 4yNo. 203300reply
Did he buy during the sale?
GermanyBernd2022-07-26 17:47:08 · 4yNo. 203301reply
I cant check the activity that far sadly but he didn't buy any games lately. He must have bought them all over the last 2-3 years because I remember he only had old games from back when we were kids in the past. Like CS, CSS, HL2, TF2, etc.
GermanyBernd2022-07-26 18:01:57 · 4yNo. 203302reply
I just found out where to check someones wishlist and he has 450 games on there lol
GermanyBernd2022-07-26 18:04:19 · 4yNo. 203303reply
I feel bad talking about him but I am really wondering how he is doing these days.

I wish I was mentally capable to reconnect to some old friends and school mates. Most of them seem to be vanished completely. No social media or anything. Not that I am any better.
DenmarkBernd2022-07-26 18:48:13 · 4yNo. 203309reply
I'm going to contact him and tell him you are making threads about him on kc

pls no
GermanyBernd2022-07-26 20:42:38 · 4yNo. 203332reply
Sites like G2A offer 5 random game keys for like $5 with the chance of getting some $25+ game in it etc, maybe he is buying these. There is even an offer for 5 random keys at $1.60 lol, with a guarantee that 10% of these games are worth $10+. It's easy to spam these and end up with hundreds of cheap trash games
GermanyBernd2022-07-26 23:36:51 · 4yNo. 203363reply
Why not ask him?
GuatemalaBernd2022-07-27 04:00:00 · 4yNo. 203429reply
This most likely, that would explain the shitty and hentai games
>why tho
1600/5= 320
>There is even an offer for 5 random keys at $1.60
320 * 1.60 = $512
>also
>With a 40-hour week as a full-time employee, you'll easily earn a minimum salary of €1,811 per month in germany
1811 - 512 the euro and dollar are 1=1 basically now so... He'll still have 1299 from a minimun wage, that's more than 3 times the minimun wage here in guatemala kek

In conclusion, your friend got bored with the money and tried to see if he could find a gem in those bundles
Saint PetersburgBernd2022-07-27 08:45:50 · 4yNo. 203499reply
Probably he makes money on it somehow. Ask him?

Post the best as in most obscure titles he bought

It's possible that games on Steam don't have a steam page? How does that work?
RussiaBernd2022-07-27 20:01:49 · 4yNo. 203592reply
Some games you can't see in certain countries. Here, from Russia i can't see steam page of Hell Let Loose game

DenmarkBernd2022-07-28 05:26:46 · 4yNo. 203685reply
Why though? Is Russia banned from playing/buying HLL due to current circumstances? Does this apply to more titles?
AustraliaBernd2022-07-28 05:51:25 · 4yNo. 203689reply
steam is either arbitrarily choosing which countries or they work with governments, or publishers are doing it. japanese publishers have behaved this way.
