I don't get it. Why would you be proud of living in a certain country? It is something which you aren't responsible for, not your achievment.

I guess the pride comes from having the same blood of those who make those achievements. Or culture. Or. Maybe it's because there's still trivial mind and you need to make a boundary between your group or collective (eg nation) to another so you can feel superior and unique. Happen with other things too.
I like my country but I am proud more of my family achievements. From peasants/mine worker to mid class safety. Whatever I like about my country is not even things like Peruvians in these decades did but prehispanic cultures and the Spanish things, food nature and animals.

Why would one be proud only of personal achievments? Pride in its root is the feeling of "yeah, this thing is based, and I'm part of it".
Only people who are completely socially detached from their surroundings would find something like it weird.

This. Worthy people do not feel pride about themselves, but self-respect.

True patriotism isn't being proud of your country, but working on improving it.

Guess it should be translated as 'are you proud of what you made of your country as of today (and what are you continue creating there)'. I mean, if you're not five years old (and not live under dictatorship) you probably had some degree of influence on where your country is heading to.

Some countries aren't easy to get in. If you manage you should be proud on that achievement.
