United StatesRed Flags When Dining OutBernd2022-06-20 06:57:59 · 4yNo. 176175reply
What are those tell-tale signs you're in for a bad experience?

- "Everything is good here." This is a very big one because that really means absolutely nothing is good here. If a server who's been around for over a month can't name what the patrons enjoy or even notice the most commonly ordered dishes, then it's best to just order appetizers to be polite, pay the low tab and then excuse yourself.
- Jack-of-all-trades menus. In addition to the aforementioned issue of servers being unable to identify quality items, restaurants that have vast menus tend not to be good at anything they prepare. A good restaurant will have a much smaller menu with dishes they'll prepare adequately.
- Steak at a non-steakhouse. Almost always, the steak is guaranteed to be mediocre at the absolute best. Same goes for pizza at non-pizzerias. Very few exceptions to this.
- For Chinese joints, pictures of food on the wall. This almost always spells trouble. Bonus points for grubby carpeting.
- Places with ≤100 reviews AND/OR a Yelp score ≤3.5. I've been to absolutely awful places with great reviews but only a handful of ratings which means not enough people have tried it. A place needs at least 100 reviews to be worth your time, and the Yelp score needs to be preferably higher than 3.5 stars.
- When ≥50% of the patrons are geriatric, especially if they're from the silent majority or greatest generation. People in those demographics couldn't be less adventurous, and boy, do they love their food overcooked and bland. They were born in a time period where the world was much smaller and had a much more limited palate as the options were much fewer. They also tend to wince at anything spicier than black pepper or even smoked paprika.
- The presence of foodservice delivery trucks that aren't napkins or non-edible supplies. An instant dealbreaker for me is seeing a foodservice truck making deliveries to a particular place, especially if it's a Sysco, Aramark or Thomsen truck. You just know the food is going to be warmed over crap the storeowner ordered from one of those wholesalers. To call any storeowner who does this a "restaurateur" would be an insult to both restaurateurs and their establishments.

>Steak at a non-steakhouse
Ha, here it's literally the Wiener Schnitzel in a non-trad restaurant, even Chinese restaurants offer those for when you take your grumpy gramps along and he wants to make the experience even worse for himself instead of embracing Asian food.

Reviews got absolutely non-sensical since they're easily bought or even more easily manipulated on all those delivery platforms, the literal worst pizza joint in my city has the best rating on lieferando.at.

Somewhat disagree with the geriatrics.
Here they flock into traditional restaurants and those often still offer very good food while all around the gastronomy is already dominated by Turks.

But I do agree about the convinience food in restaurants. Hardly any employ chefs anymore that are able to whip up the most basic food, it's all Knorr Professional and the like, which for me, is the biggest reason to just not visit restaurants anymore and rely on homecooking instead.
I see no point in visiting a restaurant that can't keep up with my hobbyist skills.
The inflated prices they demand ever since the 'rona does the rest.

First South Americans and now karens... Remember when this board was so slow that the Slovak-ball has been making half of all the posts? Pepperidge farm remembers...

As for me, I was in a restaurant, like, once, (brought by my mom of course) and my usual meal is making some insta-noodles and slicing there some sausages or ham or whatever else I can come up with, settling in front of my PC and watching Rambalac videos while slurping on that self-made "ramen". This is the BERNDCORE, this is the HARDCORE, this is how true NEET INCELS get their sustenance! So, most respectfully, FUCK OFF with your yelp reviews before you rile me up enough to perpetrate a little mass shooting at Denver's Columbine Steak House & Lounge, shouting racist slogans while shooting!

This is satire but so is OP.

Who the fuck can afford to eat out anyways?
NetherlandsBernd2022-06-20 11:18:36 · 4yNo. 176245reply
This its a waste of fucking money.
Even shitty burger at fastfood tent cost me fucking 9 euros yesterday.
NetherlandsBernd2022-06-20 11:27:21 · 4yNo. 176246reply
It's just because there's no place to have dinner in the Netherlands. They do serve you the same mediocre meals in every restaraunt (for the same price tag meh). It's edible but is no better than what you can cook yourself with very low skills or even the local fastfood.

Yeah, it's impressive how easy review platforms are to game; makes the task of filtering out shills from genuine customers much harder.

Can't speak for Europe with regards to old people, but here, whatever remains of the Greatest Generation and the Silent Majority all have extremely bland palates. My grandfather was the absolute worst about this. Boomers are surprisingly adventurous, though.

Re: foodservice trucks. One time, I ordered food from a joint where everything tasted store-bought, and then, I suddenly see a Thomsen truck parked on the street with the driver unloading his delivery to the place. Never ate there again.

>now karens
Fuck you. Expecting an establishment to maintain baseline standards doesn't make anyone a Karen.

Also, that Slovak was fucking annoying as was Antifa Kraut.

Is there a reason to use Yelp over Google Maps reviews? I have never heard of anyone using Yelp here.

Google is full of clueless retards and even more shills than Yelp. They recommend literally anything.

It is curious how in Mexico the more street like, the better the food and quality(sometimes) gets. kek
