How can I trust different sites with my login information if I use the same password for all sites I frequent?
What keeps the different sites from taking my login information and using them without my permission? Sometimes sites go down permanently and they still have the informations provided by the users which can be used against their will.

Aren't passwords usually encrypted so even admins don't know what password you use?

not on bernd.group

I wouldn't use the same password for every site. I once got a spam mail mentioning one of the passwords I used before. It said how my PC was hacked and that's how they got that password. It also said how they have all my porn history and threatened me to publish it if I don't transfer some bitcoin value to them. Turns out the retards at last.fm where I registered years ago saved all passwords in plain text and after they were leaked, some scammers used them for their spam mails.

Passwords are hashed, yes.
GermanyBernd2022-06-13 10:13:18 · 4yNo. 169359reply
only one site not hashing it to fish your data is enough :))

its salty hashed so its more or less secure depends on your password length.
meaning BG admins dont know your passwords.

If you are lazy just put a notepad file on your desktop with the site, passwords and username and such that you update each time. Then you always ctrl + f (and ctrl + c and ctrl + v) the password from there.
This lets you make the passwords deliberately difficult to guess.

Just don't get your computer hacked bruh. You could do the same with a physical notepad that you keep next to your keyboard.

> I use the same password for all sites I frequent
yeah this is sth you should never do
best option for you is to get a password manager and set one master password, and the password manager creates (salts) passwords for different sites for you
