Don't fall for that crap.
You are gifting private companies another sample for their DNA banks and it is said once they collected samples from about 0.4% of the populace, they can trace any further sample at least to the close relatives within a family.
 
If you do so, you should be getting paid for what that information is actually worth, not pay the company to bolster their own DNA portfolio.

id tell him the name of my great-grandpa and the city he's from, and he'd buzz through the records, id do it myself but this is kinda hard to do online if you dont have access to all the resources (i literally dont even know what those would be)

ill check the wiki, but i tried familysearch and its impossible because either my grandpa didnt have a surname, or he had a bullshit made up name for legal reasons
