Did you know Russia had Kerosene Radios

>Kerosene Radios
I have absolutely no idea what that is. Please tell me more.

>"After the Second World War, kerosene radios were made in Moscow for use in rural areas. These all-wave radios were powered by the kerosene lamp hanging above them. A group of thermocouples was heated internally to 300 °C (572 °F) by the flame. Fins cooled the outside to about 30 °C (86 °F). The temperature differential generated enough current to operate the low-drain receiver."

But why?
Radio receivers can be completely passive, using energy of radio waves themselves to be powered.
Crystal radios work without power according to this principle.
But they're low volume. You'd just need a large enough antenna...

Kerosen Radios are more practicable. I don't know about other frequency , but for UKW you must modify the Crystal Radio or you must have second one.

But then why does it need heatenings?

Achtung: S O U L overdose.

Unfortunately, no English subtitles, but you don't really need them to appreciate the nature and the rustic/survivalist way of living the locals still practice.
